My boyfriend of 18 months and I are thinking of moving next fall (2001) to Texas. I love living by the ocean. Where is a good place to relocate to. We are 24 and 25 years old, Torrey is a waiter and I am a jack of all trades. But I would rather work with horses, since that is my backgound. I know nothing about Texas. The weather year round the emplyoment, min. wage, Safety, and general stuff. I would love any info you guys can give.

Again, We probly are not going to move till the fall of 2001, so I have some time to find a new place to live.

Thanks in advance.

i have lived in texas all my life. if you like living by the ocean then you would probably want to move to the coast...corpus, galveston, etc. the weather is extremely hot and humid. if you are not accustomed to it, then it will definitely take some getting used to. if you have specific questions feel free to e-mail me at dustietrigona@home.com.

MY fiance' and I are in our mid 20's also. We live very close to Dustie and her fiance' ...probably about 10 minutes appart. We both live right in between Dallas and Fort Worth (I in Arlington ....it's where Six Flags is, the Ballpark is, etc), and Dustie right on the edge in Grand Prarie. The job opportunities are HUGE here!!! I've heard that the cost of living , homes, etc are MUCH cheaper here, but the income is also a bit lower. Dallas and Fort Worth, however, were ranked in the top 10 city's (for growth, developement, and industry) last year...Dallas ranking #1!!!!! Be prepared for HOT HOT HOT summers....you get used to 'em pretty quickly though. We're averaging about 104 right now. The people are WONDERFUL and very friendly, and you MUST buy a pair of boots. Ha!!! Oh, and ofcourse, if you move close to our part of the neighborhood, be prepared to come and visit...he he he.
Keep us posted!!!

Hi Ona,
Been awhile since I visited the board. Your topic caught my eye since I lived in Texas about a year and a half ago. I would recommend checking out Texas City or locations around there. I have a good friend who's parents live there and I used to visit on a regular basis. It's a nice place, clean relative to the larger cities such as Galvaston etc and quite close to the coast. I'm positive you could find a place out of the city limits to keep horses. However, living in that location would probably prove to have a slightly higher cost for land/property as it is located in-between Galvaston and Houston and many people live there and drive to the larger cities to work. Anyway good luck!

I have lived in Texas all my life too! Born in San Antonio (south-central), Brady, Lubbock (panhandle), San Antonio again, and now is Austin (central.) By far, I love Austin the most. Summers are very hot and humid no matter where you go, and we don't have too much of a winter in most parts of the state, at least compared to the NE US!! LOL Corpus Christi is a great town on the coast though. The land is pretty flat across Texas, and we are almost always in a drought during the summertime. You pretty much have to live around Dallas or in the panhandle to get snow during the wintertime. However, the panhandle is also a part of tornado alley! We have really lucked out for quite a few years now regarding hurricanes, and so we are long over-due. Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio are in the top 10 list of the biggest cities in the US. And Austin is our capitol. Ok, LOL, hope that helps some!
