A couple miles down the road from me a family just moved in with a boxer and another mixed dog. The beautiful brindle boxer was tied to a post with only about two feet roaming room. I kept an eye on it and noticed it had no shelter. Last week it rained two days straight and the poor thing had its head under a towel :( I also noticed its water bowl was constantly tipped over and it had no other access to water. I called the dog warden twice before they responded. They just gave them a warning. The people moved a board closer to the boxer but that was it!!! I was so mad. I called the dog warden again. This time they told me they were going to go take the dogs. However, they later called me back and said the people promised to put them in houses and asked me to keep an eye on them.
Since this point I have no idea where the dogs are. I am not able to see them at all!!! I am very worried they went to the other extreme and have them pinned up behind the garage where I am not able to see. Maybe i did the wrong thing and should have left the situation alone. I am constantly wondering what kind of situation the beautiful baby is in. It is driving me crazy. The dog wardens will not respond again unless there is another situation. Any suggestions?

I don't think you did the wrong thing. It is so sad how people treat their animals. I hope you can find out more to help them. You have tried that is a lot more than some people would do!

Is there any way you can walk over and check on them without actually stepping on their property? Do they have an alley or something behind the house? Maybe one of their neighbors would let you use their backyard to check on them. Bless you for caring!

I would try this first, if you can. can you take yours for a walk over there and see if they bark to find out where they're at? Bless you for taking time and paying attention! :)

I agree with the other posts. You should not feel guilty, you did more then many others would. I too would suggest to walk by if possible to check on them. Some people are so cruel!!! Keep us posted.

You keep an eye on them?????????????????? You have already done so much but I agree with the other posts-perhaps walk by and see what you can see. How can people be so cruel :(

Thanks for all your encouragement. I have taken mine for walks past their house. Since we are unable to see the dogs mine dont bark. I havent heard any barking when I go past everyday in my car. Even my kids are watching for the boxer everytime we go past. Unfortunately the are surrounded by fields so I cant be sneaking and peek. The dog warden is our only means of protection for animals around this area :( I called again today and told the dog warden I think the boxer might be in a very small crate. The kind of crate you keep inside as a kennell. It is just so frustrating!!!!!

Good for you!

You most certainly did the right thing by calling the dog warden. Think of how many people have seen this go on and did nothing. I have called the humane society several times on different people. Sometimes they do give owners a second chance to make things right but they should check back on the situation. Sounds like the dog warden in your area either doesn't care or is understaffed. Keep calling and make sure they follow up.
