Kalie is almost 11 months now. She weighs about 52 lbs. I'm still feeding her three times a day, about 1 1/2 cups a day.
Is this OK? Should I only be feeding her twice a day at this age and maybe two cups each time?

You could probably reduce her feedings to 2 times a day with out any problems. I'm sure I stopped feeding Markus 3 times, well before 11 months, but I'm not quite sure when it was.

I would start off giving the same total amount of food, just divided into 2 instead of 3. If Kalie start to get chubby, just cut it back a bit until she maintains the correct weight.

I don't know, maybe its just me, but 1 1/2 cups doesn't seem like very much food. And I'm sure that has something to do with what you are feeding her, its just that I'm feeding Major 2 2/3 cups a day at 4 months (he is on Nutro large breed puppy). And thats what is says to on the label. You are probably right, I just thought that was interesting.

I thought the same thing as MajorMom. I feed Barney 2 cups in the Morning and 2 cups at night of Iams Large Breed Puppy formula. He is 13mo. and weighs somewhere between 55-60lbs (I'll know for sure on the 15th) and looks great.

Barney--Brindle 13mo. male/n natural ear
Remmy--Boxer mix 18mo. male/n <foster>
Samson--Fawn Rainbow Bridge 7-99...I miss you!

Sorry, I guess I misspoke. I meant to say that I feed her 1 1/2 cups each feeding. At three times a day that's a total of 4 1/2 cups a day.

Starting today, I'm going to start feeding her only twice a day. I'll give her 2 1/2 cups in the morning and 2 cups in the evening.

Well, she's not very happy with just two feedings a day, but then yesterday was the first day. I fed her 2 cups yesterday morning and by 2:00 in the afternoon she demanded to be fed again. I was sitting on the couch watching TV when she started barking at me non stop. Usually that means either she has to go out or her water bowl is empty. I knew it was neither of those because she was just out and the water bowl was full. She was very persistant that she wanted something and wouldn't stop barking so I gave her only about 1/2 a cup. That satisfied her for awhile. Then around 5:00 I gave her another 1 1/2 cups.

This morning I gave her 2 1/2 cups and she ate it all right down. I told my husband not to feed her at lunch. I'm sure she'll be acting starved by the time I get home tonight at 4:30.

I hope she adjusts to two feedings a day OK.

My vet recommended going to two feedings at 4 months of age, and to keep it that way from there on. Your hound will get used to the schedule.
