Fall vs Winter Coats?

Hello everyone!

This is my first posting, but I have been searching the forum for information for about two months now since we for Bach back in August. I must say that it is great to find so much useful information, stories and love for Boxer's in one place. It is wonderful to have other Boxer lovers to bounce questions, stories, a good laugh and issues off of.

Well onto the question. For those that are using coats/sweater for colder weather, is any one using lighter clothes for the fall as the winter rolls in? Or are you just waiting for colder weather and snow? It is starting to get cooler here in Madison, WI and I was just wondering about "training" with lighter clothing for our longer walks & Dog Park. I also wanted to have him wear something now see how it affects his trips to the Dog Parks. I figured this would help Bach to get use to wearing something out and about before the colder weather almost makes it a necessity.

Just thought I would get some in-put first.

Nice to hear from someone from Madison!!

Which dog park in Madison do you go to? We go to Warner most often, but Prancer's best boxer friend is moving next week, and we are looking for a new boxer friend (I think they just play better together). Also, Prancer wears sweatshirts in the fall...see the pic's in my gallery.

Question for Prancer's Mom

Prancer's Mom...

I looked at the picture of Prancer wearing her sweatshirt in your gallery and it looked the the sweatshirt said "Old Navy" on it. Was it from there and if so what size was it? If a little girl's sweatshirt fit a boxer it would be cuter and cheaper than the ones they sell at the pet store.

I just ordered sweatshirts for baxter and roxie for the fall, and i have fleece coats for them for the really cold days. I would reccommend not having them wear outfits to the dog park, just because they'll probably get destroyed...i know my dogs like to grab hold of anything they can....usually i have to take their collars off at the dog park or baxter tries to walk roxie all over the place!

Clothes for Prancer

You got good eyes, it was Old Navy! We buy Prancer most of her clothes there, as long as they are button or zip on the front they fit great, plus the prices cannot be beat. Prancer weighs about 40 lbs, and she wears a 5T. The sleeve length works out too! Old Navy also has awesome seasonal dog accessories too! Good luck shopping. (and no more $45 dog sweaters for dogs!)

My babies wear fleece coats when we go on walks after it rains or on cool days. Some of the stores around here carry pet sweaters and coats but I've also ordered off of a couple websites. Run a search on google for dog clothes and you'll find tons of sites, although most are aimed at little dogs. My first order all of my things were too small. My little girl Irie weighs 47 lbs and wears a large and Marley at 55 lbs wears an Extra large. I think the different brands are all pretty similar as far as their sizes. Good luck! Also, take my word for it, don't let them wear clothes that are really too big or they will end up with pee covering them!!!

I just ordered Sapphire a sweater and a sweatshirt for the fall time and we got her a coat for this winter. On a couple of days that got really cold at night I put on her coat for a walk, however she won't go to the bathroom while she has it on. As soon as we get home and I take it off she goes right out back and goes. I guess she's just to prissy to poop while wearing her coat.

I also wanted to thank you for the info on the Old Navy sweaters. That is a really great idea especially in the Spring when winter clothes go on sale for super cheap.
