Excessive Drooling

We all know how bad our babies can drool. But, I'm not sure how much is too much. My son's boxer, Baxter, will, on occasion drool excessively. I mean to the point of puddles on the floor, wet spots on the carpet and furniture. The whole time this is happening, he is licking his lips. We have checked his mouth for any sores or lumps and cannot spot anything. He doesn't act like he is sore anywhere and his behavior is normal. Last time this happened, I took him to the vet, about a day later, and she chould not find any thing wrong. The only thing I can think of is maybe he ate something that left a very bad taste in his mouth and this is his way of getting rid of it. But he was with me the whole day - and did not eat anything unusual. Any ideas?? This has just recently started happening. Baxter is a three year old white boxer. Thanks for any information you can give - I really worry about this.

Well, drooling can be an indication of pain or of anxiety... since you were home with him, pain perhaps seems a more likely possibility in that case. Perhaps a tummy ache? If it's a one-off event, then I don't think there's much cause for concern there (and you may never know the cause). But if it were to happen more frequently, then a return to the vet - preferably during an episode - might be a good idea.
