I don't want to cross post so here is the story of Caesars lymph node saga:http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37199

Another day of antibiotics have gone by with no change. In fact I think the nodes under his back legs are bigger. The ones under the neck are about the same size. While he seems to be having no difficulty is there anything I can do to help him? They look awful and I can't imagine he isn't having some irritation. I have been giving him his pills wrapped in bread coated with honey for easier swallowing. He is already getting a small amount of garlic and his Syn Flex liquid for his arthritis in his 1/2 cup of veggies w/ dinner.

I have changed some things in his diet recently could this be allergy realted? When I found 3 wks ago he was 10lbs overweight and had hypothyroidism we changed his treats to OMH Couch potato (sweet potato) low fat biscuits. He was put on L-thoraxine (sp?) and we cut the kibble at night by 1/2 cup and he is getting veggies. He has lost 2.5 lbs and is on cephelexin antibiotics.
    Any ideas??

    Stephanie,
I am so sorry Caesar is having more problems:( There are several different reasons why his lymph nodes could be enlarged.
One thing I noticed withChance is when his allergies are acting up really bad, his lymph nodes tend to become swollen. From what I was told by his doctor at one point when they were pretty swollen and hard is that it is NOT common for them to become enlarged from just allergies. We took a biopsy of one of the nodes and to our surprise it did appear to be because of his allergies. I guess it is not very common for it to happen BUT it is possible (esp. with one of my baby's, nothing ever seems to be normal when it comes to them;) ) Usually the ones that tend to swell the most are the ones on his neck. The time we took the biopsy, his neck and shoulder ones were enlarged and firm.
Which ones on Caesar are enlarged? It sounds like the ones on his neck and back of his legs?
Of course I always panic when I think they are getting bigger, unfortunatly I did have a dog Candy (mixed breed) who had swollen nodes in her neck and it ended up being lymphoma. But her nodes (in the neck) were VERY large and hard.

When will you know the results? Did they pull any of his teeth when they did the dental? Hopefully it's nothing a stronger antibiotic can't fix. I will be keeping Caesar (and you) in my thoughts and prayers. Please let us know when you get the results back. Give your baby a great big ol' ((((HUG))) from us and tell him we hope he feels better soon. We are sending him some ~~~~~~~positive vibes~~~~~~~~~ his way:D

I just had another thought :D I have never seen it but I guess there is always a chance............He was just recently put on the thyroid meds, is it possible this could be some type of reaction or side effect from the meds?? I know i'm just grasping at straws but thought I would throw it out to you!!!!

    Yep those are the ones.
Unfortuately they are very large and hard under the neck and the legs. I am *hoping* that is has something to do with the dental cleaning or allergies from pills.
No they didn't. But he has had a broken canine since he was young that they are always worried about. We are heading to the vet at 11:00 for a thyroid recheck and stitch removal. I'm not sure if we will have the results back by then but I will keep everyone posted. Thanks for all the support!!!

    Caesar update.....long

Well it has been a very frustrating day. At 11:00am we had his thyroid test. Around 2:00 (we had already left the vets, of course;) the asperated gland test came back negative for lymphoma. Since the vet on Sat. (not my normal) only took a sample of one gland  my regular vet wanted to take samples of the others.

Back to the vet for the second time today. We will have those results tomorrow. He gave Caesar another physical and thought he felt something in his abdomen. Off to the x-rays.....they showed a possible soft tissue mass:eek:.

Tomorrow an internal specialist + my vet will be squeezing the big C in for an ultrasound at 7:30am. While we were talking to the vet Caesar began to pant and looked really hot. The vet took his temperature it was 103.4 (fever) on Sat. it was 102.3. He got very concerned and asked if he was still eating and drinking. He ate this morning no problem but refused his dinner this evening.

Then the vet asked if I had ever seen a tick on him or if he had been coughing at all. He has been coughing a little here and there. On to the blood test for Valley Fever, we will have results on Wed. .

The vet now suspects there is a bacterial infection. He said it could be several things together (lymphoma, tumors etc.) but is very worried because of the climbing fever and feels we are running out of time. :( Caesar ended up being able to come home with me after a big shot of bactrim. We also changed his antibiotics to the same and are giving him a large dose.

Hopefully we will have some real answers by Tue. & Wed.. I am very happy with my vet right now. He is trying everything under the sun to figure it out. Though it is very expensive for me, I can tell he really cares about Caesar. He is extremely informative and explains everything in depth. So at least it has been a very postive vet experience. We will keep testing away until we figure it all out. ;) Thanks everyone for your well wishes and support.
I will give you an update tomorrow.

Steph I am so sorry that poor Cman has to endure all these tests and is not feeling so well right now. Try to keep your spirits up you know it will help him out if you keep positive:) WE LOVE YOU CAESAR:):):) wish I could fly out there to give him a big huge hug but unfortunately stuck here...please give him a smushy hug and tell him that it is from me:) From what you said it seems like the vet really cares about sleazer (how could you not?) so I am confident that they will do whatever needs to be done to find out what's going on with Caesar. In the meantime try to keep busy and happy as they say the waiting is the hardest part.
    We love you guys

    So very sorry

It seems like we have very similar stories. I pray that everything will be alright soon. We are still not out of the woods with Delilah either. We go to the vet again. I can't stop crying either. We will cry together for our furbabies.

    Cindy
