I know that this is disgusting-but I need some opinions-

My husband and I were at a wedding today, we were gone for about 3 hours. As soon as we got home and opened the door, we could smell the poo. He is about 2 and a half years old and we are way beyond pooing in the crate. Jack is all the way in the back bedroom, so we knew it had to be bad. We had no idea. When we get down the hallway, there is our baby standing in his crate, covered in poo. The floor is soaked, he sprayed up and down the walls, his pillow was soaked, etc. A definite issue with projectile diarrhea. You could also tell he had vomited. We instantly took him outdoors and hosed him off. He then went to the bathroom again and it was just water. There was a few drops of blood that came out after he finished pooing. We know that he didn't eat anything, as we have been down that road before and the crate now sits in the middle of the room several feet away from anything on all sides.

Our vet was closed, and the emergency vet says what they always say-bring him in. This is the same emergency vet that told me to bring in my dog when he ate a piece of raw, boneless chicken breast telling me it would poison him. (They charge 130.00 just to come in.) I did some research here and decided that he would be, and was, fine. They obviously know nothing of BARF. I am wondering if the pup is resting comfortably and we seem to have the frequency under control, should we just stay up tonight, monitor him and be waiting for the doors to open at the vet tomorrow, or take him to the emergency vet tonight? We have pulled his food and have limited water because he would drink and vomit. Does anyone have any idea what could be the deal? Thanks for any help you can give

I woke up to the exact same thing this morning. Except when I let Chance out after I had the mess cleaned up and new bedding ready for him he had a more solid but still soft stool and it was filled with blood. So panic mode set in and I called my MIL and she said to take him to the emergency vet(only option) so I did. They ran a blood test and did a fecal float and found no parasites but he was diagnosed with acute colitis/gastroenteritis and pancreatitis as increased lipase noted on bloodwork. Not sure what the scientific stuff means but from what I've read in these forums it's not good. They are going to send all the info from todays visit to my regular vet and she said to expect a phone call as they will probably want to run follow up blood tests to check the elevated numbers in his liver and pancreas levels. After the medicines they gave him he is now resting in his crate. They said to keep him relaxed and not active (this will be fun) and we can start to try to give him water around midnight and we can try and give him food in 24 hours so it's basically wait and see what happens, if he gets worse they said bring him back so I will be up most of the night keeping an eye on him. Now mind you I took Chance to the ER because our vet is closed tomorrow due to Columbus Day, but I am also a paranoid freak so I probably wouldn't have been able to wait anyways. If he seems ok and is keeping things in and down, if your vet is open tomorrow I would definitely get Jack looked at. Just my opinion based on our experience today ;) I sure hope little Jack is feeling better soon and Chance sends gentle wiggles your way ( as that is all he is allowed :) ) Keep us posted and we will do the same.
