Ear Infection

My 10 month old boxer keeps getting ear infections. The vet gave me some ear wash and medicine to put in her hear for 10 days straight. She will be okay for a few weeks and then develop it again. I put cotton in her hears to keep any water out when I bath her and try not to get her head wet, so I don't believe it is coming from the water. I have been feeding her top grade foods such as Nutro Ultra and Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover, but she keeps getting them.
Can anyone give me any ideas for a natural cure? Please......

Have you thought that maybe it is a yeast or food allergy? My guy used to get the odd ear infection but also his ears stunk really bad and he would scratch them alll the time!!! I have had him on Natural Balance Duck & Potato for the past month and guess what? No stinky ears, his breath is great and his eyes have no discharge. He only gets Natural Balance D&P food (wet & dry) and NB D&P treats. Might be worth a shot, you should notice a difference within a couple weeks. One other thing, has the vet did a culture on his ears? By swabbing them and seeing what your dealing with is way more effective at actually clearing it up. Personally I would try the food first. Good luck and keep me posted :)

A friend of mine spent $100's of dollars and just over a year dealing with her dogs ear infections. They too turned out to be allergies. Once she figured out what the source of the allergies were (with allergy testing) and removed the source (beef), and changed the diet the infection cleared up and her dog is now doing wonderful.

At one point her regular vet was considering some sort of operation on her dogs ears and she kept on investigating and saved her dog from an unnecessary surgery.

It's at least worth considering and speaking to your vet about. Good-Luck!

Hi All,
I read your replies about my dog's ear infection. I switched her to Canidae this week. Do you think this would help? I did take her to the vet the first time it occurred when she was about 3 or 4 months old. They said she had a yeast infection in her ear. I comes, I treat it for 10 days....it goes away several weeks later it comes back. I even had her in to see the vet after my treating the ear and the vet said her ears looked great. Would yeast culture added to dog food cause this. I am not sure if Canidae has yeast in it. It doesn't have grain in it. I have tried multiple dog foods.....Innova, Nutro, Purina One Lamb, Chicken Soup for the Soul.......now Canidae.

And I can't tell she really has it until she starts to shake her head or has scratched the side of her face during the day while I am at work....I came home one day and she had done this.....I swabbed inside her ears with a tissue and saw nothing.....several days later........after swabbing each day....I saw a dark gray residue on the tissue and started her ear drops again......

It has been very frustrating.........I thought she was somehow getting water in her ears. I could never figure out how other boxer owners were allowing their dogs to play with water hoses and swim and not get ear infections....

Anyway, if there is a holistic vet out there with some advice or some trial solutions I would be willing to try.....

natural ear help

My two have not had ear problems yet, but my male, Reznor has many allergy issues. My Mom's Beagle always has ear trouble and we are usually able to treat it naturally. I will look at all of my info and see what I can find. If you want some natural options, just let me know.

Skeeter,
I looked thru my info and found a really great article on general ear health, what causes ear problems and how to treat them naturally. If you would like me to send the article, please PM me your e-mail. For general ear cleaning, green tea works really well. Just brew a cup as if you were going to drink it. After it cools to room temp., soak a cotton ball and use it to moisten and clean the ears. Keep using dry cotton balls until they come out clean. Hope this helps and let me know if you want the article.
