Aasha

Boxer Insane
Well took Aasha to the vet today. Last night I noticed he was scratching his face alot but I just thought it was because I have been cleaning a small bump by his nose with alchol and maybe it was itching him. I did the normal check and he looked fine. So this morning he was chewing his bone and he cried out softly and walked away from his bone. That's not like him at all. So again I go into my body check to see if everything is ok. As I was checking his mouth I came accross several bumps on his jawl. Of course he wouldn't stay still long enough for me to really examin them but I dis notice they were bleeding lightly. I swear they weren't there last night. So of course I go into panick mode because I didn't know what it was and what caused it. So I call into work and rush him to the vet. He was examined and was diganosed with acne. Wow what a relief that it wasn't something to serious. Vet told me to wash the area where the bumps are with some kind of acne medication and also gave him some antibotics to clear up the infection the bumps had. It's called Clavamox. Anyone ever used this medication before? Any other suggestions on what to clean his face with? Vet told me I could use whatever I used to clean my face, but I use noxema which is really a face wash not an acne controller. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks! :)

When Rocco was around 2 he had a very bad case of canine acne. The vet gave him antibiotics and I washed his face after every meal (what we don't do huh?!!) I just used a wash cloth and warm water. He loved it. I don't know what type of food bowls you use, but I switched from plastic to stainless steel. This also helped. Apparently, bacteria can get trapped in plastic bowls where stainless is easier to keep clean. He grew out of the acne stage within a year. I just noticed that Dino our 16 month old has a pimple on his lip -so it looks like it's time to get out the wash cloth again for our new teenager!!

Aasha has ceramic bowels. But he does have quite a few plastic toys. So I have washed them up pretty good with baby wipes. I also wash Aashas face with stridex and put some acne cream on his bumps he has now. They seem to be getting better. He does have a bump on his paw on the bottom side also. Vet said it had to do with the acne but I don't know, what do you guys think?

My Mookie gets acne from time to time. She eats out of stainless steel bowls, which shouldn't harbor bacteria but I still wash them at least every other day. When I see a pimple, I just wash her fash with my facewash and put a little Neutrogena Acna medicine on the pimple. That's what my vet told me to do. She said any over the counter acne medicine will work and just to use a touch. Just make sure you rub the medicine in really well so they won't lick it off. And if it gets bad, go back to the vet because it becomes really painful for the dogs.

Liam has a really nasty pimple on his face this week. it's getting bigger and i think we might have to bring him to have it drained. it started out as a tiny bump and now it's just a little smaller than a dime. and it's still nice and round...not coming to a head or anything.
when Moby had acne...the vet told us to use the face wash and acne medicine too. the only thing with Liam's is.......it's right on the edge of his lip. anything we put on it......he proceeds to like it right off. UGH! and i don't want the topical medications to make him sick.
we only use stainless steel bowls but he does have several rubber/plastic toys...and his crate pan is plastic. so if he's laying on that side of his face while he's in his crate.......that's where the contact with plastic comes from. even though we wash his crate out thoroughly on a regular basis....I guess it could still harbor bacteria. it's times like these when i miss metal crate pans. :)
i've been wiping his face with a washcloth, too. but it's not helping with this one spot. the rest of his face is really all cleared up. i wish he'd let me put warm compresses on this pimple but he won't have any of it. i'm sure it's sore!

Bosco gets acne every once in a while. For the first year it was really bad, always breaking them when playing which made it spread :( The vet also told us to use what people use on thier faces, but that made it 10x worse. After trying many different medications, liquids and other junk that was recommended I finally found a medicine that works for him. If I see one comming on I just give him a pill for a few days and it goes away.

I also wipe his face with dry towel after every meal.

Good Luck ;)
