Sidney loves to play with other dogs but, when she first see's them she jumps up and stomps then to the ground.... Does anyone know why ? I want to get her a playmate but I am afraid she might stomp it to death, so we are holding off on the idea until she gets a little older.........

How old is your dog. We have only had Morley a few weeks and every new dog he meets he goeds crazy over. When I let him get close he hops right up on them. Just started obedience so hopefully we can calm my little bully.

I've always attributed that to being a boxer. They like to box. When Rocky was younger and he would meet another dog, he would jump on top of them and try to box. He really intimidated a lot of dogs so he didn't have a lot of friends.

He just didn't realize that other dogs don't play like that. What I feel cured him was massive socialization. We go to the dog park every day, and by playing with other dogs they learn how far they can go and what they can get away with. The other dogs in the group set the limits.

Lots of socialization is a good thing. You may also want to really work on teaching your boxer not to jump on other dogs, or people. It is instinctive for them to raise up, and use their front paws. We have been working hard with Maggie on this, and she is doing ok. She has learned a lesson or two with other dogs. Being she is still a young pup, and only 20 some pounds, some larger dogs have put her in her place. She didn't get hurt, but was scared, and it seems to have reminded her that not every dog wants to be pounced on. People are a diffrent story, because no one has "put her in her place". But she has been calming down quicker and quicker, when meeting new people.

I wouldn't view the jumping and boxing as something they will outgrow. They need to be taught not to do this. You wouldn't want a 60+ pound boxer doing this to other dogs or people, even when the intentions are friendly.

Boxer Insane
I completely agree with everyone else!
1. This is a typical boxer play style. Most other dogs don't understand it, and some really don't appreciate it.
2. Socializing with other dogs is very important. Bailey does the same things, and has also been "put in her place" at the dog park by other dogs.

Do you have any dog park in your area? I think that is the best way to socialize. Often it's hard when 2 dogs are on a leash to really let them play. And it seems dog owners at a dog park are more tolerant and accepting of the dogs playing rough.

Once I met another boxer owner walking his 6 mo. old pup. I stopped (and happened to have Bailey with me). After the 2 pups sniffed each other, they jumped up and started to box. The other owner seemed kind of concerned and kept trying to get his dog to stay down. My response was, "is this your first boxer?"

Completely Boxer Crazy
Nino is a rough guy put he play very gently with small dogs and children. He runs at them like he will squash them but never touches them. We had a 15 pound cocker when we brought Nino home so I think he learned early that he can't play rough with her. Its kind of funny to watch them - he's 90 lbs and she rules the roost.

YES! We had the same problem! My husband had a Shi Tzu and Gracie would pounce, box, and swipe at her ALL THE TIME!! MY poor little Aubrie (the shi tzu ) was terrified of Gracie and still is to this day! To make a long story short Aubrie no longer lives w/ us. She moved back in w/ my husbands parents. We knew she needed a play mate, to pounce, box, and swipe at so we bought a male fawn boxer! We will pick him up 8/20 he will be 8 weeks old when we get him! GOOD LUCK!

Yes!!
Striker does this too.
Sometimes I think people are thinking I tried to make him a fighter or something. He loves to box other dogs, and take them down. He loves to be dominate over other dogs. He most likes to stalk them, get down real low, and then run full speed and pounce!! It's soo funny.
The other owners think he is so funny and energetic. He is 7 months old now, and does laps around all the bigger dogs.
He has been socialized, there are tons of dogs where we live, and he meets them everyday. I actually think he taught his friend Rusty, a shepherd/rottie mix to box. LOL.
