Does your boxer act differently with different people?

I was wondering if anyone's dog acted differently with different people in the house (male v. female)? Riley seems to act more aggressive when my boyfriend walks her than when I do. When he takes her out, she will growl at other dogs and at other people. Meanwhile, she seems to be better behaved with me and doesn't display this behavior as frequently.

Has anyone else encountered this?

I dont know about being more aggressive, but when my boyfriend is taking care of Brinks, he definatly has the guts to get into stuff he knows he shouldnt. I never have a problem with him getting into the trash, or chewing on shoes..but if I'm not home its like all hell breaks loose! He definatly knows when I'm not home :)

I, personally, don't have this problem. Shakira is not as obedient with my husband then she is with me, she will try to play more rough and pull more on her leash but she views him as her human chew toy ;) However, my daughter has this problem with her lab, chow mix. She can walk her and she will do great and not pull and will not show aggression with other dogs, but when her husband walks her she pulls and acts up and shows aggression with other dogs and other people as well. She was told that she is guarding her husband and feels the need to protect him more for some reason. Now my full blooded Chow on the other hand will not let my husband talk to or speak to another woman when she is out on a walk with him. Well trained dog don't you think ;)

Willis definitely forgets his manners when others are in the house... we had houseguests all last week and he was a handful! He is also kind of weird with kids... he LOVES them, but also challenges them when they try and make him sit/lay down... he figures he should be higher on the totem pole I guess. However, after a few days of having Kris's 8 year old neice around, he was fully obedient to her.

As for male vs. female, he listens to me a little bit better, but he definitely loves to play with Kris more (Kris is a lot more rough and vocal!) However, he also is more willing to "challenge" me... for example, last night he would not get off the bed no matter what I told him and he kept jumping back on. He got a time out in his crate for that one!!!

Adam is definately different with DH than with me. With me, if somebody approaches us, Adam barks, pulls and stands on me (to protect me ). With DH, nearly anybody can approach them :) With classes, he is getting better with me. Evie is fine with pretty much anybody.

One thing that I have noticed, is that when we take the dogs to visit grandpa, they are VERY GENTLE with him - even compared to how the pups are with my kids. I guess they just know that he is fragile ;)

Zeus is pretty much the same with me and my husband. Our puppy Isis seems to favor me over my husband. She does come when I call for her or crawls into my lap. Chris (my husband) has to really try to get her attention to get her to come to him. I think its still a little to early to tell though since she has only been home with us for about two weeks.
One thing that I did notice with Zeus is that he becomes very protective of my children when another dog is around them that he doesnt know or if someone new comes around them.

Thanks for everyone's insights. I don't know why Riley acts so differently with the 2 of us...she also tries to hump my boyfriend's leg but doesn't do it to anyone else! I've heard the humping is to assert dominance. I joke that she only does it to him because she already knows that she can push me around =)

Oh my gosh...YES!!!

I've often thought about posting on this topic myself. Joe has a different role for everyone in my family.

Me..his basic caregiver. He loves on me, protects me, and plays gently with me.

My husband..They seems to constantly be fighting for the alpha postion. Joe gets the most excited to him.

Kaelee (14) ..she is basically a big, human play toy for Joe. He really doesn't love on her as much as the rest of us. He just runs and gets toys when he sees her. He also plays the roughest with her.

Skyy (12)..Skyy babies Joe and he lets her. He puts up with things from her that he won't from the rest of us. He kisses her the most too.

My Dad..As soon as my father comes over, Joe runs for the back door. He knows my Dad always takes him out to play when he comes over.

My Mom...She still gets intimidated by Joe's size and strenth. She has been VERY strict about Joe not jumping up on her, so he never does. It's amazing. He jumps on everybody else but her.

I think it's really interesting how he has a role for each of us. Oh, I did forget this one. If a boy(s) comes over to see my daughter and he is wearing a baseball cap, it's all over. He sees a cap on a boy and instantly thinks he is here to play with Joe.

I'm interested to see if anyone else's dogs behave like this!

Ronin definitely acts differently between DH and me. He is much more gentle with me - but respects DH more than me (all DH needs to do is give him a "look"). He just about mauls (with slobbers) anyone who comes over to our house. But the person he loves the most is our next door neighbor. I don't know if it's because she is the first person Ronin met when we brought him home, or what. He goes absolutely spastic. He jumps around, get's totally manic and just goes nuts whenever he sees her. She's the only person he does this to. Luckily, this neighbor loves him right back, so she doesn't mind a bit (while I'm cringing every time she comes over)

brandy & tigger listen more to hubby than me, he's their chew toy and rough house mate, they are much gentler when playing with me. Brandy is shocking on her walks - i can't walk her becuase i can't hold her (bad pains in my hands) she pulls something shocking which we are working on.i walk tigger - he's great doesn't pull at all but he is still only 6mths brandy was always hard to walk even as a puppy.

other people - both go crazy when kids come over they adore them.

i can say to brandy "do you want to go and she grandad?" she know exactly who i'm talking about and nearly wets herself she's so excited oh and if i say Ruby (inlaws boxer) well thats it we had best be ready to go there and then or else she drives us mad. Tigger i think is still following her. Brandy even knows when we get on the freeway and head towards sydney that we are going to grandads becuase when we get to the end of the freeway the last 5mins she whimpers the whole way because she knows we are nearly there.

amazing dogs
