Do you let your boxer sleep in bed with you?

My previous boxer, Jake slept in bed with us every night for his entire life. I don't remember any accidents. What I DO remember is that if he got tired before we did, he'd whine a little bit and finally he would go to bed by himself. Then it was up to us to wiggle in around him...85 lbs of dead weight! After he got sick with cancer at around 10 years old and couldn't jump up anymore, we lifted onto the bed. We wanted his last days to be happy. He was my baby.

I now have 7 week old Jesse. It's been four years since we lost Jake and I seem to have forgotten (like a mother forgets labor pains!?) what puppyhood is like. So far, Jesse is kept in the bathroom at night with his bed, some toys, water bowl and "wee wee" pads. He absolutely hates the crate. Don't know if this is good or not, but for now it's working for us. I don't know if he will end up in our bed or not, though I would not have a problem with it.

How can you resist that face?

Riley started out spending the entire night in her crate. About a month ago, she figured out that she could whine like she has to go outside and then just jump in the bed as soon as the door is open. She likes to cuddle and is only 5 months old (and adorable!), so she doesn't take up too much room right now. We will probably try to have her sleep on her big pillow on the floor in a few months. If she doesn't have enough space, she will get off the bed and lay on the floor, so as she gets bigger we hope it won't be a problem.

sleeping in bed

We got Maggie at 6 weeks old and she slept in the bed with me right from the git go, i found it was less stressful on all involved, no sleepless nights and she never had an accident (I'm a light sleeper). I've never regretted it but do agree if you don't want your dog on the bed in the future, don't start now. We've never had a problem with the dogs sleeping with us so it wasn't a problem and i've found it was much easier on everyone as far a sleep goes :)

IluvMyZeus

Boxer Buddy
Zeus started off sleeping in his crate, the crying and the whinning killed me but I ignored it and when it finnally stopped he started sleeping with me about three times a week. His snoring reminds me of my dh so it keeps me company, but I know as soon as dh gets home hes gonna be "NO" and poor baby Zeus will have to sleep in his crate all the time at night. :( He usually paws my face to go potty and has never had an accident, most nights he lasts from midnight to 8:30 in the morning before going out and thats always nice, hes my alarm clock. Always on the dot. Only one thing gets me though. Im so used to sleeping alone that it took me ALOT of getting used to, to find a warm snuggly dog trying to worm his way as close as possible to me. But I do love it and maybe, just maybe I can talk dh into letting Zeus sleep in bed with us. Since he has never met Zeus I might just have a shot. Who can resist those large gooey brown eyes!

When we got Colby, my fiance insisted that he only sleep in the bed when he woke up and we weren't ready to get up yet. Yeah, right! I've been trying to teach him to jump up on the bed since he's 6 months old, much to my fiance's dismay! I had Skye jump up first to show him how to do it. Well, we've officially mastered the art of jumping onto Mommy and Daddy's bed, so I'm thrilled. Daddy, on the other hand, isn't quite as happy! But how can you not let the snuggle bugs in?! You just can't tell their beautiful brown eyes no!

My dogs have always slept with me on the bed, of course that was before I got married. Now there are 4 of us. Beau (the big one) is the most obliging, we move him around so it is comfortable for us, usually at the bottom of the bed. Annie, on the other hand prefers to sleep between us, with her butt facing us and her head near Beau's. Not too pleasant when she has the "flatulence!" Her other favorite position if it is chilly is with her back against me and her feet pushing against my husband. OR, sometimes she likes to be the crossbar on the letter H between us.

We are shopping for a King size bed...

Our boxers have always slept on our bed. The only accidents we have ever had is the dog accidently pushing my DH or I off the side. LOL I wouldn't have it any other way.

Scrapper's Mom

At first it started out with Scrapper in his bed and us in ours... then we decided to let him sleep on the bed every Saturday night. Believe me, he KNEW when it was Saturday night, too, he'd be standing there, outside the door, scratching lightly to come in. Well, of course, now he sleeps on the bed every night. Like all other Boxers, he stretches out as far as he can and sleeps perpendicular across the bed, instead of up and down. In the middle of the night, my hubby will walk up and spin him, saying, "North/South, Scrapper, not East/West!" But in the AM, there he is again sideways, while I am on the edge of the bed, with only the sheets holding me in. He only had one accident, and he was so embarrassed, you could tell he felt terrible. But nothing since that one time. Miss Holly still sleeps in her crate. I think Scrapper likes to think that he is still the king because she has to go in the box and he gets to go on the bed with the people. But during the day, they are both up there all the time. If it gets really quiet around the house, they are probably both on our bed. Oops, did I say "OUR bed?" I meant THEIR bed.

Rolen slept in a crate until I had to go out of town on business for a week. Hubby was lonely while I was gone & Rolen has been a bed mate ever since! I completly agree with Apollo's dad...Don't let them do it unless you don't mind sharing your bed with your boxer every single night. There is also no possible way that hubby & I can snuggle. Rolen has to be between us.
