Do you let your boxer sleep in bed with you?

Sasha slept in the bed with us from the very first night and never once had an accident. I took her out religiously until she was potty trained and by then she was a fixture in the bed. We got Telmar and they are both bed hogs so we try to keep them on their floor pillows or the chaise lounge....they usually trade off between the bed and the lounge a cpl of times a night, but we typically wake up with both of them in the bed half on top of us!
I truly would not change a thing!! If they are not in the bed i don't sleep well! Nothing like warm bodies to keep you feeling loved!

Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!! Can't imagine not having a boxer in bed LOL, heck DH falls asleep on the couch most nights - so at least I have someone to cuddle with :). Our babies have never been crated at night and I wouldn't have it any other way.

First night

Well last night was Roscoe's first night with us. He was really great all day long, only one accident in the house (we had just got inside and had some friends over and didn't notice, thank God for linolium ;) ) soooo we decided to try him in our room. I put his puppy bed in there in the spot between our bed
and the wall, put a towel on it and his kong. Allowed him to fall asleep in our bed and then I put him on his.

Needless to say I woke up 2x to let him go outside to the bathroom. He came right back in our room, went to his bed and slept until 6am.
We got up then, fed him his breakfast, back out for potty and then he and I took a nap in our bed (I'm a light sleeper so I didn't get a lot of sleep because I was afraid I wouldn't here him up)

**As I wrote this he went to the sliding glass door, I let him out and he went potty both ways!!

I couldn't be a prouder mommy....and the floor in our room is where his new sleeping bed is!!

We let Duchess sleep with us and my shih tzu as well. When we first got her home she cried so much and as soon as we put her by us she would stop. So she slept with us ever since. We haven't had any accidents yet!

Hi,

My baby sleeps in his own bed until about 7am and then he comes into ours. My partner isn't working at the moment so Bailey just snuggles up with him whilst I get up to go work!

It's great at the weekends though, I get to snuggle then too!!

LOL - yes, definitely. :) My husband and I feel there's almost no point having a dog if it doesn't sleep in bed with you. ;)

Some people advise strongly against letting dogs in bed/on the furniture with you, because it will make them think they're "dominant" over you. Hogwash, IMO, but I do think it's important that the dogs are taught to get off of the furniture when asked, and really probably to only get on it when invited. This allows you to share space with the dog (if that's what you want, of course), but still sets boundaries for polite behavior.

TRUE. But that doesn't help the pet fur in the sheets/on the pillows problem... Its one thing to vacuum and dust constantly, its entirely another to wash my sheets every night.. I'm sure that makes sense.

Plus, (no offense), I personally enjoy sharing my bed with ONE individual (my husband)... It just honestly is a boundary issue with ME. Nothing to do with dominance, just what I personally think is the appropriate amount of intimacy with a pet.

I just agree to disagree with this particular topic. :D

It does. If I were the kind of person who worried excessively about dog fur, or had allergies, I would never have gotten a Boxer, because it would be completely incompatible with my idea of what having a dog means. I'd have to have one of those non-shedding breeds. :)

Of course, and everyone has their own ideas of what the proper boundaries are. For example, I will feed my dogs from my fork, but only when I'm done using it; other people I know do a "bite for me, bite for you, bite for me, bite for you" kind of thing with their forks. (Too *eeeewwww* for me!) I wasn't saying you necessarily considered it a dominance thing, but many people do so I wanted to just comment on that in general.

Abby does not sleep with us either! Sometimes Sugar Pie does, but she's only about 12 pounds and a non-dominate dog. She's just a cuddly-wuddly little thing.

We used to let Shadow sleep in our room and with our son when he was about 9. However, he was just too big for his britches and we started having some aggression problems with him and called in a professional. She told us that a large dog should never be allowed to sleep in "the den" with the alphas, and only allowed to sleep with children after "places" have been established within the family.

Not sure if that is necessarily right, but it worked for us.

Bailey has slept with me since he came home at 9 weeks. I've gone through MANY matress pads due to his accidents, but he's just too darn cute to make him sleep anywhere else. Beau came home at 9 months and he slept in his crate for about the first week because he wouldn't be still in my bed. He eventually got the idea after I let him in bed for increased periods of time. Now both of my boys sleep with me every night. They're like my cuddly security blankets. I have a hard time sleeping without them.
