Samson has a growth on his jowl that worried me, so off we went to the vet today (this during an ice storm...nothing is ever easy!). Sam has a tumor which will be removed on Monday:(. Of course, this has to happen during a time in which we have very little money. My dilemma is whether to have a biopsy of the tumor done. The cost for that is 85.00, and I just don't have it. Should I borrow the money to have it done? I just don't know what to do, this is all very upsetting...

Robyn,

Yes, I would have the biopsy done. Can you put it on a credit card? We've had to put some very necessary vet payments on our credit card knowing we couldn't pay it off the next month. If you can't do that, I would borrow it from someone you feel comfortable with.

In my opinion, it is worth borrowing < $100 for the peace of mind of knowing the growth is not cancerous ... or knowing that you caught it very early and Sam will be okay.

Whatever you do, good luck. Let us know how it goes. :)

I agree about the borrowing. It's a small amount in the long run... and will give you immense peace of mind knowing exactly what you're dealing with.

Sending some positive healing vibes your way!!!!! Hope to hear good news soon :) .

Having gone through my own cancer scare with my boy Riley, I definitely would've borrowed the money from someone or charged it if I couldn't afford it on my own. From the time I found the bump on Riley's leg it really worried me, especially when the vet said she wanted to remove it because it worried her as well. Then there was the wait to find out the results from the biopsy. Luckily for us, it came back clean, but just the piece of mind of knowing it's nothing is well worth the money spent!! In a breed where lumps and cancers are fairly common, you have to be really careful.

Good luck to you and Samson. Hopefully it'll come back clean like Riley's did. Sending healing vibes your way.

oops, I didn't realize I posted this in the wrong forum.

Thanks for the advice, I will get the biopsy done. I couldn't stand not knowing. It's so upsetting to think that my 15 month old baby might have cancer:( But, I am trying not to worry about it too much, after all, it may be nothing. I sure hope it's nothing!!
I will keep you posted. Keep little Samson in your prayers.

Robyn,
Over the years of owning Boxers, let me say that we have had a ton of lumps and bumps removed and biopsied and the vast majority turn out to be nothing at all and I feel certain that this will be the case for Samson too. I know you will worry until you know for sure but maybe this will help a little anyway. You know we'll be thinking of you and keeping Sam in our prayers. You hang in there girl! Hug him for me, OK? djk
