I love 'em. What can I say? Are there any other fans out there?

I've been to so many of their concerts, that Dave looks for me now, whenever he comes to Northern California. When he sees me, he says, "Ok, we can play now, Linda's here." Honest!!

OH MY GOD LAVA LINDA! I thought I was his biggest fan! He was within two hours of us last Labor Day weekend for three days and do you think I could get the time off from work to go? So I spent all day Saturday faxing my local radio station whining and crying about not being at the concert and they kept playing his music for me. Of course we have all of his CDs and a DVD so I can actually watch him 'live' when I need a fix. But I am sure there is nothing like being there. Next time you see him, say hi for me.

In my college psych class we had to do a music interpretation in front of a class of 122 students. We had to play our selection and then explain the message we get from it. I did mine on "Ants Marching". Everybody's toes were tapping and the professor asked if he could take the CD home for a few days and listen to the rest of it! Another instant fan! This was almost five years ago.

I have to mention one thing that cracked me up recently about DMB:

I saw a tv commercial this past weekend for a new holiday music CD, featuring artists like Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, N'Sync, Britney Spears, etc., a whole poptart and urban pop lineup, and the final name on the list? Dave Matthews Band!

Which one of these is not like the others? Can't quite explain that one!

But I also love DMB, particularly the first CD because it reminds me of spring break of my senior year in college ('94), and looking at the 3D design on the cover (remember how popular those 3D posters were?)
:)

Another Dave fan here!!!!! I listen to his CDs while I'm working, driving, laying around, etc. Never get tired of them. I tried to get tickets last time he was in town but they sold out almost as soon as they went on sale. :( Another favorite I've picked up Sister Hazel.......also great CDs!

LOLOL I know the CD you mean! My mother is always asking me what this "Dave Matthews" person sounds like, so she was all excited when she brought that CD home and saw his name. She called me up with the news, and I said, "Don't tell me, it's "Christmas Song", right? You'll love it, it's sweet, slow, very pretty ballad."
Well, she called me back later and said plaintively, "Your friend can't sing!"
I finally heard the track, and it's a slow, live acoustic version which I think only DMB fans would appreciate....and not too many DMB fans are into Brittney Spears and NSYNC! Too funny.

Everyone here at work teases me because I'm such a nut about DMB. I once won front row tickets to a Dave and Tim acoustic show, from an online contest. I had been trying everything to win tickets, and everyone at work was mocking me mercilessly. They all left at 4:00, and at 4:30 I got the email saying I had won. I whooped and hollared, and forwarded the message to all my tormentors.
Well, in the morning, I had another email, this one from Dave HIMSELF! He thanked me for being a fan, and invited me backstage to meet the band. I was literally hitting the ceiling, jumping around the office, when I saw my officemate's face, struggling to contain his laughter. When I realized I'd been had, I attacked him with both fists. (He'd sent me a shadow email.)
It was SO funny. But I really did win the tickets, front row center. :D

I like their first CD, too. It's amazing!!! Minarets, One Sweet World...I could go on and on.....

Have either of you been to many of their shows?

I think the music industry is having a hard time pigeon-holing DMB. That is one of the reasons I think so many people like the band. When my psych instructor (classical music and classic rock fan) asked me what kind of music it was I said, "Uh, well, there are horns and strings! He's kind of bluesy, jazzy, rock & rolly, and every other kind of music rolled into one." But pleeeaaase, never, never, never, EVER call him 'easy listening' or 'pop'. He is anything but a 'flash in the pan' like the name 'pop' implies.

Dave for President in 2004! I love it!!!! We could do a hell of a lot worse!!!!!!

I had to laugh when I read that, but I also laughed when you tried to describe their music. When I've been asked to describe it, I've been stumped! Rock/jazz/ska/blues/funk combo is my best guess. Kind of like trying to describe Steely Dan, back in the 70's, but very different.

I have a few great concert photos, in jpeg or bmp formats. Email me if you want to share! I'm using Photowise to view them. I'm not terribly computer literate so I don't know what else would work, but if you want to try them out, just let me know! I bought a photo disc off ebay, and I use it for my wallpaper and screensavers. Oh Dave.... :p

Linda,
When I got to work today I shared the prank your coworker played on you with one of my coworkers (and fellow DMB fan). She slammed her charts on the desk, spun around in her office chair to face me, and said "That is just SICK AND WRONG!" I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants!

Leta,
I showed the perpetrator your message this morning, and he cracked up.
I came back from lunch to find, surprise, surprise, another message from Dave Matthews!
Yeah, right, like I'd fall for it again!!!!

Leta, Kim and Rileymom, I've been a fan club member for two years, next year will be my third, so I have access to good tickets most of the time, as a "senior member". Are you members? If not, keep me in mind when they announce their next tour and I'll see if I can order you tickets. There are limits on the number I can request, but it's per series, and concerts outside this area are usually a separate series so it wouldn't hamper me in any way. No extra charge, of course, I DESPISE scalpers. I take great pleasure in ordering an extra ticket or two, and selling the extra, front center section ticket, for face value on the night of the concert. I especially love doing it in front of scalpers trying to negotiate a hundred bucks for their tickets. :D

I'll have to check out Sister Hazel! I like their sound but I don't know much of their music.

Gosh, Linda! I never even thought about becoming a DMB fan club member. Thanks for the offer on the tickets <drool> I wanted to see DMB soooooo baaad. I was truly crushed. Truly. <whimper> My kids were able to get tickets to John Mellencamp (sp)for all of us (my hubby loves JM). It was a good concert but I was sulking about not seeing DMB. <sob> I'll have to surf over to the DMB website and check out the club. :D
