Need to clear up a discussion surrounding Dams and Sires of Merit as it applies to the Boxer Breeding community.

Does a Bitch or Sire need to either Sire or Whelp four or five Champions to be awarded this title?

Hope someone can quickly assist in this matter.

Actually 4 for a bitch, 7 for a dog. The variance in numbers reflecting the greater number of offspring a dog is likely to sire in his lifetime (a bitch isn't likely to have more than about 3 litters, and only one a year).

More detailed information is on the American Boxer Club website: http://americanboxerclub.org/what-is.html

That's right. You need four champions for the bitch and seven for the sire.

I have been lucky enough to have one of each. Probably will have no more as I lucked out and just don't breed enough litters. If you are not "biggie" in the show world and can't afford to advertise, it is hard to get "show potential" pups into true show homes. My SOM was loved by a handler and wanted to show him and his pups. My DOM had her pups go to several very serious show folks and her pups got finished fast. It is very difficult to finish a Championship in the US. (harder in some countries) ;)

My girls are only bred when I want to continue my line and honestly I usually pick the pups I wish to keep and the others are sold into pet homes on spay/neuter contracts.

    DOM and SOM

Thanks for the reply it was useful to note the difference between the DOM and SOM. We have been fortunate with our brood bitch in that two of her boys from the first litter have been titled and we are hoping to take three from the second litter into the ring.

    Kind Regards,
