Thor had issues with his eyes I want to say two years ago, which would put him at Gingers age. He had something in his left eye and the drops cleared it up and a month later I poked him in his right eye. Drops didn't work, ointment didn't work and he finally had keratotomy on it. The vet put a contact on it that stayed or two weeks and he had drops and was on a NSAID. He never should have been on the NSAID (Deramaxx) and we had a other set of issues with that and it was recommended if he ever needs the other eye done he will have to do an anti-inflammatory drops instead.

I hope your ophthalmologist visit goes well and Ginger can get some relief.

Ulcers

Boxers are great but for when they end up with an eye ulcer. My boxers' eyes never healed and now when they are injured - off we go to the animal eye specialist (thank God I live near one) where they end up having the grid cut on the eye to heal up. I don't even go to the regular vet. Good luck!

Yep, off we go to have the grid intervention done next week with the ophtalmologist... Let's hope everything goes well... I feel a little apprehensive :-/

Update

We had an appointment for the grid intervention yesterday. For the last 10 days (or so) Ginger was wearing an e-collar and we had to put antibiotics drops + an ointment in her eye twice daily.
Well, it seems the ointment and wearing an e-collar really helped after all because the specialist told us she has completely healed :)
Just wanted to let you know.
Thanks again for all your support!

Maxs Eyes

A few months back noticed his eye looked infected and bulgy ,took to the vet,he poured a green dye to get a better look,it appeared and we are baffled he had a scratch on the eyeball but it was way up under eye lid,, we got meds for it it seemed to heal,,,now about 3 weeks ago it was his other eye ,,back to the vets ,it was obvious that maxs was in pain ,vet gave him pain killers to take for 5 days and prescribed Tobramycin for 10 days 1 drop 2 times a day,,by the 10 day his eye still not healed,,the vet said hes got a corneal ulcer,,his eyeball is cloudy,,and im contaly cleaning the goop from from it ,spoke to the vet on 10 day he said to continue with it until i can get into see him,,im reading the posts here and I have to say I never had heard of making a serum from their own blood,,hmm i lost post with what its called is this exspensive treatment? also with this treatment the antibiodic and the dogs blood gets put in the eye?

Ok i found the post i was looking for name of treatment autologous,,will this work on corneal ulcers caused by an injury? Also they take blood from the dog and mix it with an antibiotic to make the serum? does it have to be a specific antibiotic? Im going to see him n a couple of days im going to mention this to him,,im sure hes never used this treatment, but i could be wrong,,,

Hi,
The serum is made only with the blood. We had to put both serum and antibiotics in Ginger's eye. I think the serum helped starting the healing process and it seems they get good result with this treatment. Good luck to you, it's so sad when our babies are hurt and in pain... Hope this helps!
