How old is the dog in question? If he's fairly young, then I'd suggest starting off near the high end of that range (i.e. close to the 1.95lb) and see how he does with that. If he's middle-aged +, then perhaps starting closer to the low end may be more appropriate. Just like humans, dogs tend to have higher metabolisms during their youth, and either consume less or get fat as they age due to requiring less food. That's a generalisation, of course. But you have to start somewhere, and it's easy to adjust upward or downward a bit as it becomes apparent how much food the dog actually needs.
