Boxer Buddy
I have read that 2-3 percent of the dogs ideal weight is a good starting point. I am assuming that 65 pounds is an ideal weight for my male boxer. So that puts me at about 1.3 -1.95 pounds of food. Is that per meal feeding twice a day or is that for the whole day?

That's for the whole day ;) How old is the dog in question? If he's fairly young, then I'd suggest starting off near the high end of that range (i.e. close to the 1.95lb) and see how he does with that. If he's middle-aged +, then perhaps starting closer to the low end may be more appropriate. Just like humans, dogs tend to have higher metabolisms during their youth, and either consume less or get fat as they age due to requiring less food. That's a generalisation, of course. But you have to start somewhere, and it's easy to adjust upward or downward a bit as it becomes apparent how much food the dog actually needs.
