Concerned about Lucy licking her paws

For the past few weeks, Lucy has been licking/chewing on her paws...not breaking the skin or anything, but she will sit there and lick them for a long time. My DH and I have looked all over her paws to see what could be the problem. I don't see any broken skin, nothing in the paws, no rash, or anything. They look perfectly normal other than being a little red from where she licks and chews on them. She is walking fine, playful, and doesn't whine or anything when you touch the paws. What kinds of things should I be concerned about? She's not due for another vet visit for 6 weeks, and I'm not sure if this is something that needs a special trip.

Typically that is a sign of allergies. I would see if there is something at home triggering it, or it could be a grass/outdoor allergen. Ask your vet, as well as do a search on allergies here on BW.

I agree. Looks like allergies. Lana does the same thing when her allergies get bad. Has she been scratching her ears a lot or had red eyes?

I think its the same as with humans. Either you have allergies or not.
If your puppy has seasonal allergies you can check with your vet and give them medication before it gets bad. But I do not think there is anything you can do to avoid getting allergies.

Thanks for the replies!

I never thought about allergies! That's interesting, and does make sense. We're in the process of changing weather right now and I'm sure that could do it, plus we put all the christmas stuff out. I'll make sure to vacuum really well and call my vet. Thanks!

My brother's lab licks his paws a lot when he gets a yeast infection. I know this is really gross, but the vet said that he rubs his ears with his paws and then licks them because it tastes good to him (Ew!)
