I am having some trouble with Lulu and the come command..If she is out back and I call her she will ususally come running (about 75% of the time). However, if she is where she can see you, whether it be 5 feet or 20 feet, she just sits and stares at you..I think she is saying "hey, why are you calling me, I am right here, can't you see me!!"..I can call her and say come 100 times and she will not budge. Any suggestions...

Try forcing yourself to giving the command only once. If she doesn't come go and get her. Repeating the command only tells her that the first time you said it did not really mean to come.

Thank you so much, never thought of that..That is why I love this site so much...I usually stand out there and call her over and over..

I always found that using a very long lead while training mine to come helps. Start close in and work your way out....I've used rope to get really far away.

We give Keeta a treat each and everytime she obeys the command. It was hard at 1st but eventually she learned "come"= treat

She has the command down to a tee but we still continue to reward her each and everytime.

same problem

I have the same problem! I call Skye and she used to come every time. We'd give her a treat and she'd be fine. Now she's learned a new game, which I hate! I call her once, if she doesn't come I say it again very loudly and sternly. If she doesn't come, I go get her, and that's when she thinks it's a game where I'm chasing her! She starts running like crazy around the dining room table or around the livingroom and I'm behind her trying to catch. This goes on every night before bed time, every morning before leaving to work etc. It is starting to drive me crazy and she thinks it's fun! Of course she's quicker than I am so she always seems to win! Any suggestions? I try not to act excited but she won't come to me unless I try to get her, and I ignore her after I catch her if she plays these games with me. I do also treat her if she comes when I call her! And by the way, this is just a new trick that she' been doing for about a week. She's almost 6 months old (little baby)

Try using a treat everytime she 'comes' - then step it up and use an even tastier treat for your emergency command, Vegas' is "here" and when he comes barreling over, he gets cheese (his absolute favourite treat)!

We only use 'here' when absolutely necessary but practice it a lot, especially at the dog park where there are so many distractions. He comes running over every time because he now knows 'here'=cheese!

Try different treats for different commands: ie. simple stuff like shake a paw or roll over=dried liver (least favourite but will still do anything for)
come=2-3 bits of dried liver or chicken (next fave in the scale)
here=cheese! (absolute favourite!)

Just remember: treat, treat, treat...food is such a motivator for our boxer!!

Good luck!!!
