Oh, I am so upset, the vet called and told me that my little Delila 12 weeks has coccidia. I caught her eating rabbit poop in the yars so I brought a poop specimen in and good thing I did. Now Ekim and Delila are both on antibiotics. I hope that they will be ok, neither of them have any symptoms no diarrhea or loose bloody stools. I am so so upset. Now I wonder how am I going to stop her from finding the rabbit poop, I may have to keep her out of the yard.

Coccidia is very common in pups and when treated quite managable. Do you know if any of her littermates have it? Both my girls had it as pups and when I called the breeders sure enough thier ltitermates had it too. Agree she should skip the rabbit poo :) but my girl now is forever finding all kinds of "scat" but at 18 mos has never had another bout of "poo" issues. At any rate hope your little one is fine :)

Coccidia, generally speaking, is a puppy problem and adult dogs (those over 18 months) don't generally get sick from it. And by sick from it, I mean, many dogs can and do ingest coccidia spores but don't get sick from it because their immune systems are capable of keeping the multplication of it at bay. Puppies on the other hand, have young/developing immune systems and can't eliminate the spores before they multiply out of control.

At this point, you just need to be diligent about managing her potty breaks and outside time. Keep her away from the rabbit droppings. Another thing you need to be meticulous about is cleaning up her own messes immediately. Coccidia will form spores and lay dormant in the soil and can be reingested later be the same pup or another pup.
