We are in the process of decorating for the fast approaching holiday season. Has anyone out there had any bad experiences with their boxers and Christmas trees? Or should I say, is there anything I should be warned about? I would really like to keep Oscar out of trouble and if there is anything I can do to prevent such activities from happening, I would love to hear your ideas. Last year we only had him for a couple weeks when the tree was put up. I think this year he will be more into it...literally! Any suggestions or predictions on how he will act?

Yeah this will be our first Christmas with our two. We just put our tree up last night, so I don't know what to expect. We actually put it in the computer room where we can close the door so they won't get into it when we're not here. We go to our parents house for Christmas, so we're not missing out with it not in the living room. But...

I have seen cartoons of dogs excited because their owners have brought the potty inside. I'm sure many a dog have tried this one! Striker sniffed it, and Nellie didnt even bother to notice the tree. Let us know what happens.

We have never had trouble with the tree or decorations but have with the wrapping paper on presents. Rebel used adore shredding and eating Christmas paper but would leave the presents alone :) Any presents which may resemble food (including soap or anything that may smell remotely 'pretty'), have to be kept out of reach here.

We put our tree up last night, and other than trying to eat some of the icicles, Boomer pretty much left the tree alone. The cat, however, is another story.

Putting the tree in the computer rom is a great idea...I'll have to talk it over with my husband but that may be the option we go with. I also never thought to keep "goodies" such as soap, lotion, and candles out from under the tree....Oscar would have a field day. We also have a cat who LOVES ornaments. We've had her for a few years and unfortunately know what to expect. Thanks for your input...I'll keep you posted on what happens.

I just wanted to share what Tango did to me last year at Christmas time. I had put up the tree and have the dog and a 2 yr skin kid too. I didn't want to put any ornaments on the tree that would hurt them (glass/plastic, etc.) and I love the country decorations so not thinking about Tango I dried orange slices and made gingerbread men and hung them, clear lights and fabric garland on the tree. It looked beautiful, for two or three days. Tango helped himself to all the gingerbread men AND dried orange slices he could reach! In hindsight I realized how dumb it was on my part, I only had two or three ornaments left up by the ceiling!!!! My suggestion, no food on the tree!!

There was a similar post further down which dealt with this subject - our two are now
3-1/2 years old but they were only 7 months old the first Christmas we had them and of course very curious! Our house must be the only one with a tree in the living room with an exercise pen around it!!!! We didn't use the pen when they were 2 years old, thinking they were old enough to know better - NOT!
They ended up trying to run around the tree (which was in a corner of the room) and the whole tree came crashing down. Up went the 'fence' again!!

No, have never had a white Christmas so I can not miss it :D As soon as the weather starts to get humid and we have afternoon storms I always think of Christmas. All the cards and pictures with snow seem so strange to me LOL. When Carl was growing up he had Christmases in Brunei and England and prefered the hotter Christmasses :) We have a gum tree but a Palm tree is a great idea.
