Hello,
Oscar was spoilt whilst i was away in England and now will not eat his dog food (Nutro large breed) unless i put a little cheese mixed in with it. Will this cause any problems? I heard it isn't good for their coat, or is this another rumour?
Thanks in advance
Chris

I really don't know, but wouldn't think a little bit would be bad. How much are you giving him?

Sometimes I use a little bit of cheese to put Remy's medicine in (maybe a teaspoon)--he loves it!

Derek LOVED cheese!! But the problem was that we did not like being in the same room AFTER he ate the cheese. A bit stinky!
We never gave him a lot, just an ounce or 2. and not very often.

My SO refers to the grated parmesan cheese as 'dog food", as I've used it in the past for reluctant eaters by sprinkling it on top of their food.

I would say that a little cheese certainly won't hurt him, but that if you prefer to not continue adding it, that you can gradually cut back on it.Try eliminating the cheese and add some yogurt instead.

I'm sure a little cheese wouldn't hurt Oscar. Markus just loves cheese and when I grate it I alway save a little bit for his next meal.

I give my Amy bit of cheese every other day. She loves Jarlsberg 'reduced fat', and parmesan cheese. She only gets at most one slice broken up + the hardened bit from the sides, and she gets the parmesan with a bit of our pasta dinner. I have seen no problems with this as yet. She also loves to get fed cheese or peanutbutter sandwiches cut into small squares (Wholemeal bread only).
Best Regards

My mom's dog loves cheese, but the vet said "absolutely not!" Apparently cheese causes digestive tract diseases in dogs.

We give only little nibbles. Most dogs are lactose intolerant, so it's not very good stuff for them. And it makes them fart....

That's what our vet said too. But then she mentioned we can give small amounts of cheese as a treat sometimes. Not a daily meal, of course. I also remember the instructor at the obedience class suggested that we bring small peaces of cheese as treats because dogs just LOVE it.

Regards :)
