Hi everyone,

Bonny developed a lump on her left side a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was an insect bite so I left it alone but two weeks later it was still present. We just took her to the vet and he thinks it is a button cell tumor (Histiocytoma). He said they sometimes go away on there own but as hers is growing he wants to remove it. She is going to have it removed on Monday and then they are going to send it off for a biopsy just to make sure it is a Histiocytoma and not something more nasty.

I am worried. I lost my last boxer to mast cell tumors and it started off in a very similar fashion. Bonny is so young (just under 8 months) I couldnt bare it if was something more serious. I know I shouldnt worry until I know the results but I can't help it.

Has anyone had any experience with Histiocytoma?

Thanks,

Lucy

Waldo had a histiocytoma on his ear last year,it was right in the fold next to his head,no problem once it was removed, though he needed anti-inflammatories to reduce the swelling from shaking his head, not forgetting the haematoma that required the injections in the first place.
Once he had the stitches out,he was fine and he was happy to be able to have his ears scratched:):)
Hope all goes well with Bonny, good luck:)

Splash had a button tumor on his ear about 6 months ago. The vet kept an eye on it and it went away on its own. They look nasty but eventually they do go away. The vet had told us that if it got bigger she would remove it, but luckily it didn't get an bigger. I read that these are very common in boxers and boston terriers. But I know how you feel about keeping an eye on any bumps our boxers get. I am sure your little one will be ok. Wish you luck with the surgery.

I have just called the vet and Bonny has recovered well from the anesthetic. We can pick her up soon. We will get the results of the biopsy in a week or so but fingers crossed.

She's gonna be all snoozy, my poor baby. I hated dropping her off at the vet this morning but she was really happy to see everyone. I cant wait to see her. I will let you know the results when we get them!

I also want to say thanks to this forum for letting people vent their boxer worries. It really helps!
