Completely Boxer Crazy
Our family is looking for a baby boxer boy....I just had a lesson in reading between the lines and asking better questions. Educational opportunity.

Today I visited a local 'breeder' I found online whose website was impressive, only to find out that there were MANY discrepancies between the information on the site and reality.

WEBSITE: Feeding -- "...boxers should be fed a BARF diet" & explanation
REALITY: Feeding -- all dogs fed Pedigree and she had NO idea what BARF was!!

WEBSITE: Showing -- talks about how she aquired show quality dogs
REALITY: Showing -- her stud dog was big and coarse, too much white, and sired both of the litters available, at the age of 12 MONTHS!!!

WEBSITE: Health -- dogs so healthy that the vet recommends my puppies
REALITY: Health -- I asked what testing had been done and was told the vet said these dogs have good hips and hearts (NO Testing!)

There was more but I know I stumbled into a backyard breeder's home today. The best thing I can say is that the 10 adult dogs did live inside and looked healthy. And the 13 pups seem to be finding homes quickly.

I think we will try to go to a meeting of our Oregon Boxer Club and see about meeting some serious boxer people there, in the hopes that may lead to the right baby sometime soon!

Oh sheesh

Well, it takes all kinds. They are everywhere. Irresponsible breeders will say whatever they think a puppy buyer wants to hear just to make a sale. Asking for proof is usually where they fall short :)

Continue to sollicitate people that way and you are on the way of getting removed. You have been warned.

Olly,
Just for clarification.....being in the "choosing a breeder" section of the board I am not sure why most post is a sollication when I only offered to help her out in finding some reputable breeders, I thought that is what this site is for??

Just for clarification too as the rules are what I have written:
There is a sticky thread on top of this "Choosing a breeder" forum at http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39295
It says "This forum is to be used for getting tips & advice on finding the right breeder for you. For example, questions to ask, what to look for in a breeder & so on".
It is not for posting things like "If your interested please PM me and I can give you some names". Why not? Because you can advertise for a back yard breeder by pm and by posting publicly, you are solicitating all people who are located in Oregon looking for a puppy.
To avoid that kind of problem, solicitation is forbidden.
As for what this site is for in this "Choosing a breeder" forum: the site is here for helping members to find themselves a good breeder by *educating* them. A referral doesn't help. jazzyboxer, who started this thread, is doing a good job so far by asking the right questions and going to her local boxer club.
