Boxers playing with other dogs

Max is now 8 months old. When he plays with other dogs it seems like he hops all over them and smacks them with his paws. It seems like he is aggressive. Last night another dog and Max were playing. I had a hold of his collar, because I was afraid he would hurt the other dog. He was jumping and twisting so much that I had to sit on him to get my arm untangled with his collar. It hurt so bad I thought he broke my arm. He loves to play with other dogs, but he plays very rough. I was wondering if all other boxers do that?

I think that is the Boxer Way, Debo is a VERY submissive dog, but when he plays, he plays rough, and he doesn't mean to. Debo's always played rough, even when the other dog gets mad, he rolls belly up to show he's submissive, but he goes back to jumping on them and smacking them around, these dogs just don't know what hit 'em.

Have you ever had Max play with Boxers? It's a wonderful sight to see how they play together!

that is why they are called BOXERS!!! And even if your dog was playing to rough, they other dogs will let him know fast.
He is a puppy let him play.

He He He :D You have a perfect visual description of boxer play! And Asy, you are so right about other dogs not knowing what him them. Two boxers at play is a wonderful, hilarious site! I LOVE IT!!!!! Nicole, it really is not agression, it just seems that way.

The other dogs will let your boxer know when they've had enough. Boxers are just tireless when it comes to playing! And so rough! I have to keep my three-year-old son out of the back yard when Boomer is playing with Brandy, his beagle companion, because they will knock him clean off his feet and never look back!

Draco, like Debo, is a submissive dog, but everytime he sees another dog he goes beserk. He has his paws all over the place and he appears to be boxing instead of playing. I have a tough time holding him down!!!!

I have not had Max play with other boxers. I never see any boxers around. I only see other dogs at the parks.

Cassie is 13wks my friends German Shepherd is two wks younger and is used to playing with an older GS but she found Cassie a bit boistorus I think Cassie was using her paws to hit her just like your dog at one point she had her two paws round her neck and I thought she was going to strangle her,but they were having fun.

Brutus plays rough too. We also have a Belgian Malinois (Bear), who is naturally a more aggressive dog, so we where worried that Bear would hurt Brutus. Well it’s turned out to be just the opposite, Brutus has ended up hurting Bear a few times, the latest incident ended with a trip to the vet for Bear. Brutus goes to doggie day care twice a week for socialization and obedience and I’ve noticed the other boxers in his playgroup play equally rough. It’s a good thing he understands the command “leave it”. (we end up using it a lot)
