Boomer loves to eat my cat Baxter's poop! I have the hardest time keeping Boomer out of the litter box! I try my best to keep an eye out for him heading to the bathroom where the litter box is, but you know, boxers are like children...VERY SNEAKY!!! I changed from a traditional litter box to one that has a "hood", which helped a little...he doesn't scatter the litter as much, but he can still stick a paw in and grab some poop! Do all dogs like to eat cat poop, or is it just boxers? Does any one else have this problem...how have you solved it?
Thanks,
Julie

It is my understanding that dogs will often eat other animals excrement because all species digest differently. Our vet once told us that to many dogs, cat poop is like caviar. I do not have a cat so this is not a problem for me although Cooper does occasionally eat rabbit poop.

Dog's eating cat poop is a common problem. You have to put the litter box in such a place that the dog can't get into it. Try facing the door towards the wall so that there is just barely enough room for the cat to get around and into it. Also remove the poop ASAP, before Boomer can do it for you.

Ewwwwwww! Lady used to cruise the litter box in search of kitty candy all the time....she LOVED it!! I think if I had used that to train with, she would have been a champion obedience dog!!

The only thing that works is putting the scratch box somewhere the dog can't get it! I knew someone who put the box in a laundry room and used a drill with a big bit to make a big enough hole for kitty in the door to the laundry room. It worked GREAT!!

Wagner LOOOOVVVESSS kitty candy. We have three cats, so there is always plenty to go around. I yell at Wagner anytime he goes near the bathroom, but it doesn't seem to deter him too much. He's very sneaky too and before you know it, you see a little tiny litter trail where he's been. I usually just close the door and let the cats go in later because nothing seems to work with stopping him. I've even pounded on the top of the litterbox while his head was in it, and it only detered him for a little while.

Now, my only alternative is to reason with the cats, maybe I can talk them into stopping production of kitty candy. Not a chance! ;)

Major would rather eat cat poo than eat his own food! One time we were on a walk and he found some and I had to dig it out of his mouth! Icky! Not fun! :p What we did is put the kitty litter bag and a chair in front of it (Its in a small corner). The cats can jump on the chair and get over, and put the litter bag nest to the chair so he can't wiggle under the chair. Good luck.
