We never used treats when potty training Biff. Lots of praise, high pitched squeals of delight, and us leaping around frantically let him know he was doing good foolicon

For Buttons, however, we are using treats in all her training, as she is deaf, and would probably be scared witless if we used the same method we used on her brother

Now, our boy Biff has been watching all this with a bemused expression, and he has finally cottoned on to what is happeneing here foundicon

So, when Buttons goes potty outside, she comes to me for her treat. Biff now follows us, and procedes to squeeze out whatever tiny bit of urine is in his bladder at the time, and then come to me for his treat also

Silly boy, btw, the "treat" is one piece of kibble, not a sirloin steak, but luckily both my babies are food motivated

Biff, you are a smart one!! How dare you not reward him for being good too!?
When Cyrus was a baby, we used to give him a treat when he came back in from pottying. He was quick to figure out if he asked to go out, he could do a quick circle of the patio, and ask to come inside for his treat!! Needless to say, the humans had to re-vamp the training.
Boxers are so smart!!
