So SAD! My husband came home last night only to find Montgomery's whole side of his face and neck were grossly swollen. It was so scary he left for the vet before I got home -- 15 mins later. They gave him a shot of prednizone. After some of the swelling decreased, the Dr. was able to pull the stinger out. It is a lot better today but it is still swollen. Has his happened to anyone else's baby? What did you do? How do you prevent it? My poor baby boxer.

Our two have both been bitten.

Hardy at about 3 mths. Really scary, as he swallowed a bumble bee, and his face swelled up. He looked like a Sharpei, and he hardly had any wrinkles normally. He did it on a Public holiday, so we had to go to an emergency vet, too. He knows when to get sick, our boy 8O!

Laurel came in one morning with bigs welts all over her, and itchy. The vet said it was either a wasp or a spider bite. But after a couple of hours and a shot of antihistamine she was fine. The vet said antihistamine on hand in summer is a good thing.

Morgan was stung by a wasp right above her eye. I did't know it at first until her eye started swelling . By the time I got to the vet, it was almost swollen shut. She gave her a shot of antihistamine, and a few hrs. later, it was better. If she would only stop trying to catch and eat them!

Minnie ate a yellowjacket this past Thursday. My fiance and I were in the butcher shop and Minnie was out in the back of the car. I looked out the window and she was jumping around all over the back seat...not an unusual sight given her affinity for chasing everything (bugs included).

Anyway, we came out a few minutes later and she was shaking her head around and snorting, then she opened her mouth and a chewed up yellowjacket fell out. I knew she had to have gotten stung, so on the car ride I watched closely for any swelling, labored breathing or weazing.

After she spit the bee out she didn't really seem like she was in any pain or discomfort, and she was acting completely normal. When we got home I examined her a little more closely and could see a little swelling on the inside of one of her jowels. After about an hour it had swollen a little more...looked like she had a big wad of chewing tobacco in her cheek. She didn't mind it at all though, and was as energetic and playful as ever.

The swelling began to subside after about three hours and was unnoticable by the time we went to bed that night.
