Lulu is almost 4 months. I wondered when you start bathing your boxer. I know they do not require a lot of bathes, but I would like to get her acclimated to the water..So, what age and how? Do you bath them in the bathtub. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

When my were babies I would put them in the sink and wash them very lightly with warm water and baby shampoo. I did it very infrequently so as not to dry out thier coat and skin. As adults I do a bath about every three months or so and use wipes in between. I always towel dry them (they love it) and in cold weather I make sure they are good and dry before they go out. Puppy baths are the best :)

I bathed my boy the night I brought him home. Used warm water and an gentle oatmeal soap for delicate skin (for dogs). I usually bathe every month or two and wipe with doggy wipes inbetween.

They make puppy shampoo, so you could try that on him. I bathe both of mine every other week. I use to bathe Izzy weekly, but now with 2 of them, it's just too much. I know a lot of people will say that every week, or every other week is too much, but they have beautiful coats, and do not have dry skin whatsoever. I bathe them in the bathtub, and have one of those sprayer shower heads that have a hose 6 feet long. That makes it A LOT easier to bathe them with that, and I get all the shampoo off of them. I use special shampoo from the vet that smells wonderful!!! When Izzy was a baby, she would get these itchy bumps all over her. They thought she was allergic to something (still haven't figured out what), but as long as I give her a bath with this shampoo, she doesn't have the itchy bumps. If I don't bathe her, she starts to get them again. I am thinking she is allergic to something in the house, like I am. Then when Gus came along, I just started using the same shampoo on him. Just make sure the water is nice and warm.... mine don't like it cold, they will shiver if it's too cold. I use a wash cloth to clean their face off. They don't really like the bath, but they LOVE getting dried off!!!!! I dry them with a big towel first and they stand still, perfectly. Then, they know when I get the second towel out it's time to have FUN. They go crazy, and I let them play with that towel, and they run around like crazy butts!!! Then, they are nice and tired after they are done being crazy.

Good luck with your puppy! I would start right away giving baths to get him use to it.

I also bathed my babies in the sink...didn't last long though!! I'm thinking, they were probably a few months old duing thier first bath.

I'm pretty lucky, both boys absolutely love the water.

If you just want to get them used to the water, you can always put them in the tub (with some treats) with just a little bit of water on the bottom. Keep the water running and let them drink away.

Mine always drink the water and try to eat the soap when they get thier bath's.

I gave ABBY her first bath when she was about four months old. I bathed her in the kitchen sink using warm water and puppy shampoo. I don't know if it was the height of the sink or that she wasn't acclimated to being in the water, but that first time didn't go so well. Since then, I've always bathed her in the bathtub and she's never acted up.

I shower Dakota every 2 months, I get in the shower with him, and it is easier for me and him.

As long as they are small the sink is the best. Lana now gets her scrub downs in the shower. she tries to jump out of the tub so this way its a lot easier. Especially when we are done I close the door and she can shake off the water with out me being soaked to the bone :) Otherwise it looked like water world.
