I looked out my back window just a few minutes ago and noticed a bunch of fire trucks and ambulances at the apartment behind my house. In 2003 I experienced a devastating housefire that destroyed all my personal possessions and my 2 boxers. I cant help but feel like I can do something, but my boyfriend is making me feel really crappy, he keeps saying "you dont even know why they are there, I dont see any smoke, what can you do? I think you are over reacting" I love him dearly but this hits very close to home (literally too!) and I am really peeved at him for making it seem so minor.

Part of me wants to go over and see if I can do anything, and part of me (more convinced by the bf) that I shouldnt. I know when my house burned down I was pissed at all the people watching and no one offered any help or advice... chris says I am just getting myself all worked up for nothing...

I need advice quick!
Please!

I don't think it would be a bad idea to walk over and see what is going on. They may need help or they may not. Atleast they will know that you are a caring neighbor and may help you out in the future. If it would make you feel better I would go.

Just tell the bf you are taking the dogs for a walk!

we just got back from a walk, and the whole time we were out I kept smelling fire. One house was having a fire in the fireplace, but as I walked up my street I got the same sinking feeling that I got when I arrived to my house to find it in flames... its odd, you just know. I have the same helpless feeling that I cant shake.. its annoying.

So you think I should go?
Sigh... he thinks I'm insane I'm sure but its a hard thing to go through and sometimes it helps when someone knows what its like.

Thanks

I really don't think it would do any harm to go over there, but that is my opinion, unless they are neigbors that keep to themselves. If it would make you feel better I would go.

If you don't want to maybe you can put a note in their mailbox tomorrow letting them know you saw the ambulances and fire trucks and you are there if they need anything and are willing to help out. If you do find out it is a fire, I would definitely approach them and tell them that you know how they are feeling.

Have you met them?

I just took tyson for a walk over there. It was a whole 16 storey apt building so lots of people. Most of them I believe are staying in the building but a few were evacuated. I offered my house and my phone to anyone who needed it and the fire department told me I was the only one to offer any assistance.. I told them about my fire and they remembered it (it was a big fire the night of the black out). One couple was going to take me up on my offer but got in touch with family so decided to go there. I still have no idea what exactly happened, but I didnt go over to snoop, so it really doesnt matter, as long as everyone is ok.

Everyone liked Tyson too! Although he was a little chilly and I didnt bring a coat with me because I didnt need one earlier on our walk... I forgot about how chilly it can be standing around.

I just hope everyone is ok, and I left my address if anyone needs it to come by anytime tonight.

I feel better having offered help, I felt like I did something that no one did for me when my house burned down and I was left standing on the street alone.

Thanks for the advice,
Colly
