We adopted Harley from a Boxer Breeder who was fostering him, in January of 2000. We had a very difficult time finding him and he was the only boxer available in the whole province at that time. We were extremely fortunate to get him. We weren't even considered for a placement by the American Boxer Rescue Organizations as it was too far for them to make a home visit as we live in Canada. Since we've already rescued one boxer and proven that we can be good parents to him, is there any chance of ever, in the future, adopting one from the States without the home visit? I live in fear that we will lose Harley or, even if he should reach old age, that we won't be able to find another one here in Canada. We can't afford a puppy from a breeder and I am devastated at the thought of not having a boxer in my home. Would anyone have any information on this? Thanks so much!!

Brenda---I know how you feel. I know there are some Rescue Groups that will ship a dog out of state if the dog is a "special needs" dog (deaf, needs meds, etc.).

A post 1 or 2 under yours---by beandawgs about the 2.5 yr. old white boxer---has the web page of NorCal Boxer Rescue. I just went thru their "successful adoption", "successes", & "where are they now" pages. They had a dog that was now living in Canada. Check it out. Besides Canada, there was one living in Michigan, too. Good Luck :)...Annie

Thanks, Annie! I want to say how terrible it is that there are so few boxers available here in Canada. Then I realize that no boxers for rescue means that all boxers living in Canada have homes. Sometimes I wish I lived in the States, though, as there are always boxers available there. Thanks again, you've given me some hope for a future rescue. Have a super day! :)

This is an idea....might work, you never know! Do you have the equivalent of the SPCA or other animal humane organization in your area? Are there any other breed rescues near you? I would think that if an AMerican rescue truly wanted to place their babies in loving homes, that they would allow a humane orginization or another breed rescue to do the home visit and send them the evaluation. I know that they do this with adoptive families for children, so surely they can accomodate the same for a pup. Give it a try!!

Hi,

I am still new to the board but have some info if and when you may need it. We live in Upper East TN and all of my husbands family still live in Canada. They are in Waterdown, Oakville, Toronto, and Collingwood between us going up there and them coming here we see each other about 6 or 7 times a year (every couple of months). If you find a boxer to rescue between here and there (TN, VA, WV, PA,NY) we would be happy to bring one up. We have visited Burlington many times and it would make us happy to help in a rescue to find a boxer a great home. Keep me posted.

Thank you so much to everyone who has offered advice and assistance regarding boxer adoption. I really do appreciate all of your help but, due to my daughter moving back home, for a short time, we're not able to take another boxer baby at the moment. She has a 125 pound shepherd/rotti/lab mix whose favourite pastime is to bark constantly at the neighbour's dog or anything that moves, for that matter. He and Harley get along quite well and spend hours playing, wrestling and chasing each other. I will be really relieved when my daughter gets her own place again and takes Champ to a new home. I love my daughter dearly but Champ is a little large for this place. When we are able to begin our search again I will definitely keep all of your advice and offers of assistance in mind. Thanks, again, so much! The people on this board never cease to amaze me! You are all so kind, helpful and thoughtful. Have a super day! :)
