Another Raw Bone Question

I give raw marrow bones to Cornelius on occasion. The grocery store sells them in packages of 4 or 5 so they are not that big. My question is what color should they be? I had a few that looked like the edges of the marrow (right next to the bone) were brown. I threw them out. They should only be pink/red only, right??
