So this is our daily schedule with chief, 6am as soon as i wake up we go outside he does his business we come back home he eats, about 20 minutes later he goes outside again just in case, then he goes to his crate. 4 hours later my girl friend comes home and she feeds him and takes him out again then they hang out until later around 6pm and i feed him wait 20 minutes and i take him out again.. now this is when the trouble begins, everyday we think its a day without dog pie or hidin suprises of his stool. But its completely random we take him outside he does his business we take a walk then a hour later he pies somewhere, its completely out of his schedule and random between the hours of 6pm to 11 when we go to bed... how can we stop him from peing at night,.. should i paper train him instead? he is doing really well with going outside but there is no stopping the random peing indoors,, we have had him for 2 months and he is 4 months old... THANKS!

How often does he go outside between 6pm and 11? The average 4 month old puppy is going to need to relieve himself every couple of hours, so he should be getting a couple of bathroom breaks in that time.

Four months old is not old enough to understand housetraining. That is, understanding that he must hold on or otherwise let you know he wants to go, if the door doesn't magically open at the needed time. Well, you can see that - and it's why you find he slopes off to leave a pile somewhere in the house. Four months old is old enough to be fairly reliable, and they don't need to pee every 30 minutes any more - and that's enough to lead some of us to think they understand. But it's a rare pup who actually does at this age (which becomes patently obvious as soon as you fail to provide a potty stop at the time it's needed). Full understanding usually takes until at least 6 months.

You'd probably find your life easier if (a) you schedule an additional potty stop or two between 6pm and bedtime; and (b) don't give an untrained puppy the freedom to wander off around the house out of your sight ;) He isn't yet fully housetrained, and shouldn't have that sort of freedom until he is. Don't even think of him as trained until you haven't had an accident in over 6 months. Managed that way, you should be able to avoid the accidents, which in turn will lead to a trained dog faster.
