Completely Boxer Crazy
Hi All,
I was reading a post saying it would be great to have a vet on the board, and thought about asking a friend to look into it. I'm hesitant though, because for some strange reason, it's nice to speak so freely with a certain sense of anonymity from people in my immediate circles. Does anyone else feel this way? Am I being weird and paranoid? Just curious.... Please be frank!

Lava Linda,
I agree with you on the idea of anonymity, I don't think that makes you weird at all. It actuall makes me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who has had those thoughts.

On the idea of a vet on the board, I work in the (people) medical field and medicine, including vet medicine, is an inexact science. I have gone to WebMD and seen diametrically opposed opinions on the same subject, on MANY subjects. I think if we were to get advice from a vet who didn't know us and our animals, we might get conflicting information. I am afraid it could be more confusing than helpful. I know that everyone thinks they have the best vet, but I have seen, even on this board, many different people get many different pieces of GOOD advice from their doctors that don't necessarily agree with what my vet or your vet might tell you.

I also think a vet on the board would constantly feel the need to repeat a disclaimer attached to his/her advice reminding us to consult with our own vets before following any information that we get here.

It's easy for us amateurs to share out thoughts, feelings, and advice about what has worked for us. There is no professional responsibility that could set us up to be held responsible for giving bad or wrong advice. It's a sad situation, but doctors have to be constantly vigilant that they are not placing themselves in a position to be sued over doing the 'wrong' thing.

Just my thoughts.

There is already a disclaimer for the whole site: "Boxerworld.com makes no representations about the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or timeliness of the web site or the material. The use of the web site and the material is at your own risk"

Boxer Insane
Linda-
I agree with you. This forum is more for opinions and chat, and I don't think it would be right to hold anyone out as an "expert." It would do more harm than good, and put too much on those people. :)
