does anyone have a "senior" boxer that has recently gone under anesthesia?
Zuki may have to have her teeth cleaned. and, more importantly, have a few fatty cysts removed....and another lump that we aren't crazy about.
the vet said he can aspirate the lumps & bumps for biopsy.....
but i am concerned about her teeth. she is getting "old lady" breath and i wonder if her teeth need a cleaning.
i worry about putting her under anesthsia for any of this.
any words of wisdom to help me feel better?

I think Markus must have been around that age when he had to be put to sleep to have his ear stitched up. He didn't have any problems.

I would be inclined to take your vets advise. Does he think that her teeth need to be cleaned? I would give he some nice raw bones to help clean her teeth. He could aspirate the lumps to see if they are cancerous. Fatty lumps are usually just that and don't need to be removed.

Personally, I wouldn't want her put to sleep unless absolutely necessary.

i feel the same way....i wouldn't want to put her under if she doesn't need to be.
but at the same time.......i feel like if her teeth are going to need cleaning I'd rather we do it sooner...rather than later because of her age. plus her breath has been a little yucky lately and i'm wondering if it's a teeth issue or something else.
we have an appointment with the three dogs tomorrow (for their annual check up) and i'm compiling a list of questions for the vet today. it's the only way hubby and i can remember to ask him everything all at once. i have a list almost a page long already! :) with three of them........all with their own issues.........this visit to the vet might take a few hours! :o

Austin is close to 10 and was recently put under twice in two and a half weeks for two separate surgeries. He did fine, no problems. But I would never do an "elective" surgery on him. (no matter what his age) I think as long as your baby doesn't have any issues she should do fine. Good luck with your decision.

I have 2 boxer's that are 9 years/ 4 months old. Sophie just had a spindle cell cancerous tumor removed from her leg for the 2nd time she did fine with the anesthesia, matter of fact she's been acting like a pup lately. But I wouldn't put them under anesthesia unless I had no other choice.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Avery was 8 and 9 when she went under for eye surgeries and had no problems. She also has very bad old lady breath. The vet checked her last week and said she has very little tartar buildup. I'm just starting to use a product called Liba III its an oral spray that is supposed to work very well on their teeth and gums.
