Boxer Insane
A few days ago Hurricane was getting his daily inspection (I give him a once-over every evening before bed... call me paranoid!) when I noticed the inside of his ears were red and splotchy. No bug bites that I could find, no smell, I make sure they are always clean. They didn't seem to be bothering him at all. I wasn't sure what it was but just decided to keep an eye on it. The next day, it was gone and his ears were back to normal. Fast forward two days, and it happened again, only this time his paw pads were pretty red too. Again, nothing seemed to be bothering him at all, just very very red. And again, it was gone the next morning.

The ONLY thing I can think of that both situations had in common was that both times he had just eaten peanut butter earlier in the afternoon. The first time, just a spoonful. The second time, we gave him an empty peanut butter jar to play with (and boy did he love that!!!).

Does this sound like a peanut butter allergy? I have not given him any since then and he has not had any more redness at all. It doesn't seem to itch him or anything when it happens. Was it just coincidence that he had peanut butter each time or do you all think that is what it was? Obviously if it happens a third time I will be taking him to see a vet but right now I am thinking it wouldn't do much good since he is back to normal. Any advice is appreciated!

Also, I don't know if this makes a difference but we just had him fixed 10 days ago and he was on Flagyl and Rimadyl for about a week. Maybe that had something to do with it??

Completely Boxer Crazy
Honestly I have no opinion on the PB allergy. But if it makes you feel any better, I never know from one day to the next if Winston is going to have some mysterious bump or rash. It seems boxers are pretty sensitive to their environment...do you think it may just have been something environmental he came into contact with???

I've learned to take the wait and see approach. If it doesn't seem to be affecting his appetite, energy level or comfort I try to let it play out. BUT, if it is something that is making you uncomfortable, it would be worth at least a phone call to the vet for your own sanity.
