The AKC/Eukanuba National Championship is coming to my town this December. I’ve never been to a dog show but I’m interested in going to this one. DH says it will be boring. I’m assuming that there is a lot more to it than what we see on TV. Can anyone tell me if it’s worth going if you’re a layman? What should we expect? Also they are selling either day or evening tickets, what would be better?

There's a lot more than what you see on TV, if you go during the day (which I would suggest). First and foremost, if you go at night you only see the two Boxers (or whatever breed) who won Best of Breed and Best Bred By Exhibitor in Breed; if you go during the day you see all of them as they compete for those two awards. :) Boxers will be judged on Sunday. There are also demonstrations, vendors, and Meet the Breed booths (the ABC will be participating in that) during the day.

More information is on the AKC site, if you haven't seen that already:

We went to the show. It was very interesting! The demos & agility were neat too. And of course the Boxers were beautiful! But I was disappointed that there weren’t very many Boxers in the ring. Other breeds seemed to have many more participants. Is that normal?

Dang! I'm sorry that I didn't pick up this thread earlier, as I have really been wanting to go to a dog show to see the Boxers. I record the entire show and and then fast forward to the Working Group just to see them!

Thank you so much, JulieM, for the dog show info!! I found an all Boxer show in our area in April and, of course, it's already on our calendar! Woo hoo!!! Can't wait!
