Well, thought I would update you all on our two's agility progress. They are actually pretty good after just two terms now! -(Wow, at the start of the first class last term i really wondered if they knew how to jump at all)
Over Summer our club has held an all-levels ladder competiton with courses being points based on time and difficulty. Even though we are just beginners it was lots of fun -we missed out all the contact obstacles, but got to go round a 'real' course. Over the time, they have learn't to jump more than two hurdles in a row, to turn corners, nearly got through all the weaves, (a few more weeks and they will be able to do that without us running alongside clapping our hands at them (I think)). They have met lots of other dogs, reminded the older dog owners how it was when they began long ago (running behind the clubhouse, stealing others toys... lifting the leg on some of the equipment, going the wrong way thru tunnels and deciding that after every third hurdle they MUST go through a tunnel, etc...
So in short we have had a ball! And our two weren't bottom of the ladder at the end...they were second and third last, but Laurel got a prize for most improved dog, too.
If you have a 2yr + dog and don't do agility, set up equipment in the back yard, and go for it!
