I have to tell you this cute story. I'm home today and we got an oil delivery. Megan didn't even have the slightest notion that the oil man was here. He came right up into the yard and delivered the oil and she went about her daily play. My husband and I were laughing saying she is such a great watch dog. She barked the other day at the oil man 4 houses down but when he is in our yard, not a peep.

Well when the oil guy came back to leave the bill in the door, he opened the screen and Megan started barking. Ok so she is a little late but at least she barked.

It was the funniest thing. It was like ok be in the yard but don't come in my house.

We have a 500 gallon inground propane tank as a back up heat source. They came the other day to fill the tank and my three were in the yard. If you could have seen the look on their faces as they just looked each other and at the three doggs lunging at the fence. When I came out they said "Thank God. There was no way we were going to enter that yard with THEM!" Little did they notice their little nubbie wiggling in the back. My three were propibly just thinking Oh good someone new to play with.

My husband use to have a boxer (now at Rainbow Bridge) and she played in the yard which had a wooden fence like a barn fence almost. Anyways she would run everytime someone walked by the fence with her tail going 90 miles an hour. Most people in the neighboorhood knew her and didn't pay much attention, they knew she was just looking to be played with. The man down the street use to bring her treats everyday on his walk by the yard.

Well for over a week they got no mail. When they called the post office they were told that the substitute mailman would not deliver the mail due to the dog being in the yard. What really got me is yeah she was not chained and yeah the fence was low enough so she could have got out but she was never left unattended. My father-in-law was always in the yard with her. And I do mean always. That dog wouldn't have hurt a fly, ok she did eat a couple of bumble bees in her life time. :) But if you don't know the dog than I can see where a person may think otherwise.

Now if I could get Megan to just bark when someone is in the yard, I would be happy. Baby steps. At least she is barking.

Cute story!

That was funny! Sometimes, I guess, they have to be in the mood to bark.
When someone is coming over (repiar person, etc...) I always make sure Ruby is in the house and I never open the door without the doorbell being rung. That way, they hear Ruby before they come in and she goes outside and as I am taking her through the house out back I act like she's a killer that needs to be contained, making a big fuss about "Down Ruby!" "No Ruby." And all she wants to do is play! I am home alone quite a bit and Ruby is my protector so I feel safer doing this. Inevitably, our visitors end up going out and petting her and giving her attention.

Well after the oil man yesterday some solicators came by, they pounded on the dog. Megan didn't bark in fact she went out and had them pet her. About an hour later I was watching tv and the doorbell rang on the tv and Megan started barking like crazy. If I could get her to bark at the right time I would be golden.

Our Gas & Electic guy came a couple of weeks ago, and Striker barked and lunged at the door. I was like WOOOWWWW. He was being very protective. So I told the guy he was nice, and could come in. I tried to open the door for him, and he had hit foot against it. He would not come in our house. So....I put Striker in Nellie's cage, and go back to the door. Nellie is at my feet.

Nellie is little, and would not bark at him, unless Striker was barking at him too. She was wagging her nub, and everything. He was still terrified. So...I had to put both of them away.

I ended up putting them in the computer room, and Striker kept jumping at the door, I think the guy was terrified.

As soon as he left, Striker was down real low on the ground, sniffing everywhere he was.

He's very protective of our house!
