HELENE

Boxer Insane
In yesterdays local newspaper there was an article on the front page about a teenager, he was walking along the Vedder Canal which is close to us, he heard a noise in the bushes and saw a little black nose poke out. He went to look and found SEVEN black Lab cross puppies. He had a knapsack with him so he bundled three in that and carried the others. He went along a little further and found another one on the trail. He couldn't carry any more so he took off his pants, tied the legs in a knot and put the puppies in there. He took them home, and now he and his mother are trying to find homes for them all. They are about 5-6 weeks old. How anyone can do such a thing I don't know. Why didn't they take them to the SPCA instead of dumping them there, they could have been found by foxes or cyoties instead of that fantastic young man. There is a picture of him on the floor with all of the puppies climbing all over him, it is priceless.

Helene, thanks for posting about the puppy hero. It's these kind of stories that always renew my faith in the well being and love of mankind especially teenagers. We often only here the bad stuff about kids now. It is just so awful that it had to happen in the first place.

I hope all the pups are ok, and find loving homes.

When I was a kid, I was fishing off an ocean pier, when this man walked to the end, and casually tossed a kitten into the water. He just walked away. The poor thing was down there mewing and struggling pitifully, and we managed to save him by borrowing a crab trap and hauling him up. We found him a home by walking around the pier showing him to people. (Not the best way, but we knew we'd be in trouble if we brought home any more strays!!)

My parents, I'm embarrassed to say, once did something REALLY dirty. (I was only 4, don't get mad at me!!) We had an accidental litter of kittens, so when it came time for them to find homes, my folks backed the station wagon up to a matinee movie that was letting out a million kids, and just like that, they were gone. Who knows how many ended up abandoned.
My folks are supremely conscientious pet owners these days so it's hard to imagine the same people would have done such a thing. (I think they were desperate!!)
