My mum has not been well recently and I have felt so bad not been able to get over to visit her while she was in hospital. I got one of those phone calls that went like this "everytime the ward door opened I thought it would be you ". Now how the hell did that make me feel.
So I have just booked a flight for the 8th of December and I will be staying only 4 days but at least its better that nothing.
I haven´t told anyone only my hubby & kids, so hopefully the surprise will not put her back in hospital. I was going to take the kids (skin) with me but to tell the truth its too much hassle and well I just want to spent sometime alone with my mum. Is that selfish??? My kids have started a list of things they want back even though christmas is just around the corner.

I don´t know if I´m doing the right thing by just turning up. Should I at least let one of my brothers know ?
Any input would be most welcome.
Sleeping arrangements is no problem at all so I don´t have to worry about that.

Plus if anyone has ever used the ON-LINE CHECK-IN SYSTEM can they let me know their pros & cons please......

I think it's wonderful that you're going to see your Mom. But yes, I'd at least let your brother know you were coming, maybe between the two of you you can decide whether or not to tell her.

I agree it might be a good idea to consult with your brother. What a wonderful thing, popping in to visit with your mom. I'm sure your visit will do her more good than anything else could! Not selfish at all to go alone, sounds just right to me. Some grown up time could be just the thing for all of you.

Travel safe and I hope she's feeling better soon.

I agree...I think you should let someone know you are coming! I've used the online check in system and had no problems! I don't know what airline you'll be flying, but when I used it, we checked in online and then when we arrived at the airport there was a booth to check your luggage. I know people that use it all the time! Have a good trip :)

Thanks guys, I told my brother last night but made him swear not to utter a word. Plus I think its better he knows cause if anything happens at least he would be prepared to make a journey to the airport.

Hope all goes well for your mom. It's great that you can go see her. As far as the on line check in goes I've used it with no problem. Have a great holiday.

So I´ve been there and back.
My brother picked me up at the airport.
My mum was upstairs lying down when I arrived and I just walked in to the room and said "Hello Mammy", I thought that she was having a heart attack, she started shaking and crying, then she couldn´t breath, what a shock. Eventually she calmed down and she just could not believe I was there.

I only stayed for 4 days but she said that that was the best christmas present she could even have received.

It was so cold as well.

Now I´m totally exhausted but it was worth it.
