    Hey...I'm back!!

Time flies! Life gets so busy...anyway...I thought it had only been a half year (maybe less) since I was on last, but...it was actually November 2010 when I last logged on. Oh boy! Just wanted to touch base with those that remember me and say a big HELLO! Also...we have puppy news at our...

    Kennel Cough / Canine Influenza

OK....I think Buster has either kennel cough or canine influenza. None of my dogs have ever had any of these before, ever. Buster received his vaccination for kennel cough (along with other vacs) on Saturday, October 30th. For the first time ever, I took him to our local dog park on...

    Buster ate Halloween candy!

Oh boy....there's nothing like getting a phone call at work from your son (who got home first from school) to say "chocolate's bad for dogs, right?" Buster had gotten to my youngest son's Halloween candy. My son left it on his floor (oops) or should I say ARGH. My son found about 20-30 wrappers...

I'm on the wait list for a boxer pup!

The pups are expected to be born on or around December 26th, so would be ready to go to their new homes by the end of February/early March. We are so excited! Buster is 2-1/2 now and quite ready to have a boxer baby around...and so are we. I want a fawn female with a black mask...but we'll see...

Buster - swelling from possible bee sting/spider bite ??? HELP

OK, folks....I haven't posted in about a year. But I need some help right now for my 2 yo boxer boy, Buster, and I'm hoping for some direction since it's a Sunday and I can't get a hold of the vet today. Last night Buster kept me up all night long. Initially I thought he had to just go...

Reintroducing myself after being off site for 4 months...

HEY! Boy, have I missed this wonderful site we all call Boxer World (or BW). I started fostering boxers back in February and became so inundated with the rescue group and the hundreds of emails in that group and then serving on some of their committees, not to mention the foster dogs themselves...

    Seasonal Allergies - licking paws

Hi <sigh> it's me again...with more questions on these allergies. My foster Nyah has allergies of some sort and has been on a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice 2-3 weeks now. She finished 10 days worth of Cephelexin to treat a bacterial skin infection, and had an Ivomec injection on 2/26...

    I am INSANE!!!!

OMG....I just noticed! I've just been typing away tonight since it's been days since I've really had the chance...between kids, work, Buster, my foster Nyah, and everything else...I've been more stretched for "time" lately. I am so excited to have joined the wonderful rank of INSANE with all...

    Switching from bland diet...

OK, for two weeks (minus a couple days), I've been feeding my foster girl Nyah a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice due to allergies. On top of having a bacterial skin infection when I got her, she seemed to have an allergic reaction, but I realized I introduced too many things at once. I...

Heartworm Preventative with an allergic dog???

Not sure if this is the right place to post...and please move if not. My question is what type/brand of heartworm preventative pills do you put dogs on that have food allergies? I am fostering a 3.5 yo old female with presumed allergies (food likely). She's never been on heartworm...

Natural Balance - allergic reaction ??

I have a foster girl that has allergies and presently dealing with a bacterial skin infection that I'm treating. I put her on Natural Balance, sweet potatoe and venison. She's eating about 2-2.5 cups a day. She's taking Cetphalexin 500 mg. daily as well as fish oil capsules and benadryl...

    Alpha Dog question...

I read something recently and don't remember where...but it was about alpha dogs and what happens when you introduce dogs and how you should not interfere and allow them to settle the ranking order. I also thought that the dog in the house already would be "top" dog. Now...here's my situation. I...

    First Foster - Nyah

I picked up Nyah today, surrended by her various reasons. Nyah is a 3.5 yo fawn female with allergies and some skin irritations and hair loss. She reportedly weighs 65 lbs. Her ears are a shorter crop than what I've seen on boxers and her nails are very long and sharp. She's a very strong girl...

    Skin Allergies?

Need some advice: I'm going to be taking in a foster girl tomorrow that reportly has skin allergies. The owners are surrendering her because they've both lost their jobs and can't afford her medication. Their vet wanted her on Predisone 20mg every other day or she will break out all over, is...

    New Vet for Buster

After Buster's ordeal from his neutering...I have found a new vet! Though I received great recommendations for several good vets, I decided to go to one about 5 minutes from my house. A co-worker/neighbor suggested this vet. She absolutely loves him and said this vet goes crazy over dogs and...

    Approved for Fostering!

I am now officially approved to be a foster mom! I'm very excited, but also know that I will fall in love with the boxers that come through my home, so will have to be strong when they get adopted into their forever homes!

    Prednisolone - side effects

What will the possible side effects be for Buster taking Prednisolone? He's going to be on this for 7 days following his neutering surgery (to which he isn't healing well and bleeding...see other thread). Thanks.

Bleeding after Neuter - what's normal?

OK...I have Buster home after a two night stay at the vets office, but am worried about him and the bleeding. What is normal? We got snow again and my kids are all off school. I had my 16 year old drive me to the vets office because I'm having trouble with my eyes (had lasik surgery last...

    Missing Buster...I'm so sad

Buster got dropped off at the vets office this evening for his neuter surgery tomorrow morning. I am so sad...and miss him so much. I guess that sounds silly...I'm way too attached to my baby. I hate to think of him laying there all by himself (in a kennel run with other dogs nearby probably...

    When can we start agility?

Buster will be 8 months old next week. Is it still too early to begin agility training? He was in a puppy class when younger, but we haven't done any other obedience classes. I think I should probably start with that first before agility.
