Any tips on distinguishing warning signs of Cushings from normal signs of aging?

Heather - thanks for adding your two cents here, I for one really appreciate it!! We have been down one heck of a road in trying to get our pup diagnosed, and have ended up with a doc who is pressuring me to try meds that are not appropriate for him. Too long a story to bother with here, but I...

Any tips on distinguishing warning signs of Cushings from normal signs of aging?

OY. It just occurred to me I didn't really finish my initial thought about appetite/water consumption. What I meant to convey is this...factor in that everyone has different levels in the observation of and tolerance for their pets' behaviors, so in order for those two symptoms to be the most...

Any tips on distinguishing warning signs of Cushings from normal signs of aging?

PS Particularly at this age (ours are 8.5, 9.5) there can be a fine line between paranoia and vigilance. I think you're being a great puppy parent!!!

Any tips on distinguishing warning signs of Cushings from normal signs of aging?

The Cushing's symptoms that most often result in a vet visit are voracious appetite, excessive drinking/peeing (usually to the point of accidents in the house), and hair loss. Sounds more likely to me that you are dealing with general symptoms of aging or, as mentioned, possibly a thyroid...

    Lymphoma symptoms and diagnosis

Thank you so much...I'm sure this isn't an easy thing to talk about. It's already been helpful for me, and maybe will be for others in the future. As I suspected, none of this sounds consistent with Jordan's troubles, fortunately. We have already had the bumps aspirated, but have since switched...

    Lymphoma symptoms and diagnosis

There is currently an active thread for discussing treatment options for lymphoma. I wanted to open this one to find out a little more about how lymphoma gets recognized and diagnosed. If any of you would share those experiences, it might prove helpful, for me and others. What symptoms were...

Lymphoma-Please share your experiences w/ chemotherapy & experiences w/out treating

I will start a new thread, so as not to disrupt this one, but I would really appreciate if all three of you could respond with a little detail on how your pups were diagnosed...it might be helpful for my boy. Thanks, Jenn

    hair loss

Just to back up what Cami said...we are currently in a holding pattern with Jordan, having to wait for thyroid medication to get out of his system in order to do the FULL panel that should have been done in the first place before the (insert expletive here) incompetent vet put him on medication...

    Ugh! Pancreatitis overload!

Sounds like you're doing great! Since you have to go down to two meals, it seems like it would be a good idea to give whatever veggies you're using with the morning meal, don't you think? Seems to me like the additional fiber might be helpful in giving her tummy something to do while you're...

    What age to fix female

Double check with your vet, but if I recall correctly with Barkley (who's pushing ten...so this was awhile ago), we were told from around six months to anywhere before her first heat cycle. I think we were closer to the six month point when we had her procedure done. She's a fine, sassy ol'...

    Can anyone advise on anthistomines

Oh...I totally didn't even think of Pepcid! That's a great idea! I don't know about there, but Zrytec is quite expensive in comparison to Pepcid or, even better, it's generic.

    Can anyone advise on anthistomines

Hmmm....can you check for Nytol, or Medinex? Seems like it might be sold as a sleep aid there (N Ireland), too, rather than as an allergy remedy. I'm not having a ton of luck finding anything, but I would think you could probably ask the chemist or your vet whether it might be available via...

    Can anyone advise on anthistomines

I did a little digging around and found that it seems some docs do 'prescribe' Zyrtec for dogs, but it isn't the same thing as Benadryl (Diphenhydramine). Just make sure that the variety you purchase doesn't include pseudoephedrine, (Zyrtec D, for instance), as dogs absolutely cannot have that...

    Yet another Boxer with Lymphoma

I'm so sorry to hear that you're dealing with this disease...and in such a youngster, no less!! Though I'm unfamiliar with cancer drug protocols, it sure does sound like you're doing everything you can to extend his life and quality of life. The only thing I can add is that you may want to...

    Allergy to Shampoo/Conditioner?

It could be a reaction to the bath, but it might also be that he tangled with a spider or something, too. Sounds like you did the right thing to give him some relief with the Benadryl. For what it's worth, we use a fragrance-free baby shampoo when we bathe ours. That said, though...if...

Atopic Dermatitis and Raw feeding. Help!

Eren, I'm not enough of an expert to know whether the lack of organ meat would have such an impact, but my guess is that it would not. The most important thing when feeding raw is that they also get the bones, because without the calcium from the bones, they can't properly digest the nutrients...

Atopic Dermatitis and Raw feeding. Help!

You mention going to the beach every day...could it be something as simple as sand mites? I cannot imagine that he would develop a food allergy out of thin air, after having been A-OK with your chicken/raw diet for as long as he was. You were right to try another protein source, but in my...

That makes me laugh...of course she would like hard-boiled eggs...why is that they love anything stinky!?!

    Ugh! Pancreatitis overload!

Canned pumpkin or other squash is a great source of vitamins and fiber, too. I use it whenever one of ours has upset tummy, as it's good for both constipation and diarrhea. Sprinkle it with a little cinnamon and a smidge of honey...they love it! Just make sure that any veg you used is cooked...

    Boxer eye question

Hey there...I'm late to the party here, but our girl has a cloudy eye that is the result of of her having had a corneal ulcer on that eye. Two, actually. She had one that eventually healed on its own, then about a year later, it recurred. We were told she would need surgery, and that even then...
