Can boxer's get pink eye?

My boxer Jax woke up this morning with his eye watering and matted. It's gotten red over the day. Can boxer's get pink eye? Has anyone's dog had similar symptoms? I didn't know if I should take him to the vet tomorrow or not.

I can tell you that the same thing happened to my little guy.

He eye was really gookie every morning when he woke up.

It turned out that he had scratched his Cornea. My Vet used a black light (wand) and sure enough - you could see a scratch in his eye. I have never heard of dogs getting Pink eye - but I wouldn't rule it out either.....

Boxer's are such Ram Rods anyway - they just barrel in to things all the time - head first!

I hope you can find out what it is!

Thanks for your reply. I hadn't thought of him scratching his eye but that makes since since he's always running around crazy. I'll take him tomorrow to get checked out.

I'm glad I could at least give you one idea. I ended up having to put drops and ointment in his eye for two weeks....

I hope Jax is okay! (what a great name by the way)

Tae had similar symptom and was also diagnosed with conjunctivitis. The vet did a tear test and gave me an overpriced tube ($10--very small) of antibiotic ointment to put in her eyes 2x/day for 14 days. It worked immediately.
