My 11 week old Buck is going thru kennel cough he must have had it now since 10/17..3 or 4 days after I got him! Is any one else experiencing this? I'm hoping for something natural to give him at night that will calm his hacking cough.. It will and has lasted all nite long and really only at nite so myself and him don't get much sleep.. Now it's been starting at 4-4:30 am and lasts till about 7am. He's been to the vet twice and is now on his second antibiotic and a cough suppresant. I understand being of a respiratory infection antibiotics don't help much but gosh it's been a long time and it hasn't really let up.. Just need to vent some crankiness.. but any type of ideas as far as a throat soother/natural cough suppresent would be HIGHLY appreciated.
The vet had said 2-3 weeks of this!! Any others relating to this?

I also went through kennel cough with my Brody. The first time he went through 2 different antibiotics. The second time we recognized the cough and started antibiotics early. Try to keep him as calm as possible. It seems the more active they are, the more they cough. Also when he is having a "fit" try holding something minty up by his nose, like a strong smelling gum (when he is not hacking too badly). It seemed to help calm Brody's coughing a bit. I think it helped open things up a bit.

I feel sorry for your baby. Give the baby a hug for me.

Where are you located in NJ?

You poor thing! My baby went through the dreaded kennel cough about 4 mos. ago and I thought I was going to go crazy. Nothing seemed to work, and every time he moved, he would hack until he would spit up (nothing more fun than cleaning that up). I didn't sleep for 2 days.

What finally worked was these things....a humidifer or putting him in the bathroom with a hot steamy shower, it helps them breathe easier. Robitussin cough suppressant, and a mixture of honey and lemon.

Oh yeah, and a glass of wine (for you) :)

Hang in there, the antibiotics started to work in about 4 days (although it seemed like years). I hope your baby feels better soon.

My baby Boxie went through it real bad, he came into the pet store with it so i had to take him home,We did the antibotic for along time he had it for ohh i bet 7 weeks, we started using the humidifer all the time i put eucalyptus oil in it and also found a eucalyptus salve that i used on him (just like the vicks) on his chest that really helped. Good luck it takes awhile to get though this, we will be thinkin of u!!

Our Georgie had kennel cough after her first experience at a local kennels :(. When she first came home we thought she was mad at us for leaving her cos she was very lathargic but after four days she started coughing real bad. I actually sat up with her all night rubbing her chest (my Mum used to do this for me when I had flu). I took her to the vet the following day and they gave her an antibiotic injection plus synulox tablets which cure all sorts. Fortunately, her cough cleared up pretty quick. Each night when I ran a bath for myself I made her come in the bathroom with me as I was told by an animal shelter that this works wonders as Kennel Cough is just like Whooping Cough in Children.

I'm definitely not putting Georgie in those kennels again, in fact we wouldn't be going on holiday without her for a few years!

Hope your baby recovers soon.

Regards, Sue
